This morning started with a check out of our Beijing hotel after breakfast. We rushed over to Tiananmen Square where we had excluaive access to the square and further went on to the Forbidden City. A fact that stuck with me throughout the time we were in the Forbidden City was the amount of "concubents" that emperor had. Though it might've been exaggerated, 1000 women was a crazy number. This bugged me because In the West, the middle east is always bashed for their 4 wives policy, and no one ever had mentioned the behavior of the emperor of China. Another fact that scared me was the servants had their testicles decapitated from a young age, that was outrageous in my opinion. They didn't even have a chance to choose a life. Furthermore, a positive from yesterday's history lesson was that China gained equal rights way before the USA did (I believe we are still working on this). That blew my mind, because we are always talking about how bad communism is, yet we in our free democracy still do not have equal civil rights- this amazes me. In the evening we traveled to Shanghai, and this hotel is a million times better than the previous. Let the new adventures begin!
