28th June-
Last day of contiki tour.
We left the hotel earlyish to visit the site of ancient Delphi. This was home to the famed Delphi oracle.... Poeple from all over the ancient world to seek advice from the priestess. The young women would go down into a cave below the temple of Apollo and breath in natural gas fumes then return to the surface and speak in versus which was interpreted by the priest. There was a large temple to Apollo on the site along with many treasury building fromthe various city states, stadium and gymnasium. Walked around with the guide before heading into the museum. This housed many of the artifacts found at the site including a large intact bronze statue of a chariot driver.
Left the museum and made a quick stop for lunch at a truck stop.
We stopped for a quick group photo with on a cute mountain town in the background.
Arrived back in Athens sooner than expected which is was nice. Walked with the group back to the hotel and collected my bag from storage. Said goodbyes to the contiki group and headed off to a hostel in plaka. They had a room which is good as I hadn't booked anything. Shared with an old, I think Israel man. Grabbed the top bunk and headed out for a quick walk around the shop. There are many many nice things at good prices but my bag is already full and heavy. I am going to start having the throw away maybe and replace with new things. Headed backto hostel and enjoyed the end of happy hour. Was talking with a group and then were heading out at a small family restaurant for dinner so I tagged along. We walked around for more then 30 mins with no luck finding the place. Ending up settling on a restaurant that had group plates. Was good as this way you can have a small amount of lots of things as compared to when it is just one of me and I can only have one plate. Headed back and watched a little of the football cup but headed up early as I have an very early flight in the morning.
