I forgot to mention, yesterday we went snorkelling. Steph has been fascinated ever since La Digue but this time the sea was rough and not only that, there has been fatal shark attacks in these waters in recent months.
I was wearing fins, struggling to walk with them but swimming I was as agile as a seal pup with spina bifida. I knelt up abs noticed a massive wave coming towards us, a surfers dream so I warned Steph. Steph was stood up, I prepared myself by putting in my snorkel and again warning Steph, then 'bang'!!! I was knocked and scraped right back onto the beach. I was washed up like a rag doll. All I can compare it to is in a film when someone gets punched abs they slide back in a comedy fashion. Steph said stand up.... Not as easy as that when you're wearing fins. It actually hurt!
Today, while my Wife slept I decided to venture out and look for Reptiles to photograph. I looked in trees, under rocks and on the beach. All I found on this occasion was a massive hermit crab. I tried to take a photo but he scurried off. I found it highly unusual to not even see a lizard.
The Seychelles has the largest concentration of lizards than anywhere else. Amazing and totally true as far as I'm aware. I was also looking for signs of any Snakes including the Flowerpot Snake. It's a tiny snake, a blind snake, resembles an earth worm but not segmented.
It's amazing walking back from dinner and seeing 7 or more House Geckos on each wall or even running around the bedroom.
During the day, the site of a beautiful emerald green day gecko doing its best not to be seen or skinks rushing around and even fighting is a wonderful feeling to embrace, especially for a herpetologist. This place is heaven!
I still can't get over an amazing highlight of my trip here, managing to spot a Wolf Snake in leaf litter in Valle De Mae, I mean what are the chances?
We Seen lots of lizards and got used to the sound of a noisy Skink rushing over the dry dead palm leaves but this was different, subtle! I knew instantly it was a Snake. I rushed over like a mad man trying to find it but it out smarted me but at least I saw it, it was stunning and something I will never forget.
My Wife is feeling a little better this evening, it was a Creole inspired night tonight, Creole food and dancing. The chef had promised to make us spaghetti bolognaise, he did and it was beautiful.
I had an amazing coconut milk shake before we left to settle down and watch sex and the city 2. Not my normal choice of movie but I'm married now and therefore the remote is no longer mine to control.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
