Right. At this point it would be prudent to point out that the blog is being written retrospectively by two weeks. As I’m sure you can imagine, it’s quite hard to find the time to write these entries but we’re getting more organised now, in fact, we’re actually becoming quite good at this travelling lark!
Ok then Charlotte. Ollie and I arrived a few hours after Ben and Kez due to the fact that we had to get a later bus as there were only two spaces left on the bus we wanted. Ollie and I spent the day in a park in Raleigh kicking a footy about and arguing as to whether the two (fairly fit) girls who were also at the park were lesbians. I attested that they were, they surely had to be! Didn’t they? Anyway, I digress. Ollie and I were involved in illegal activities from the word go. Within seconds of leaving the greyhound terminal we were requisitioned as to whether we would like to buy “a lot” of drugs. We respectfully declined. Our couchsurfing host then picked us up. Holly was a lovely girl who worked in arranging Medicare for those not fortunate enough to have health insurance. You can’t ignore all the politics revolving around this, especially when campaigners use the UK as an example when informing voters that nationalising the health service is effectively leaving people to die! I digress again. Holly was then pulled over by the cops on the way home. Naturally Ollie and I s*** ourselves when she says “oh no, not again”! The policeman to my surprise was entirely reasonable about the whole thing. He only used his tazer once (kidding)! Turned out she hadn’t updated her number plate so he let us off with a ticket. House prices are cheap here. Very cheap. So cheap in fact that young professionals all seem to have incredibly nice houses. I couldn’t help thinking of poor Ollie, living in squalor for the past few years in Lincoln. I continue to digress. We got an early night and the next day headed into Charlotte. It’s quite an interesting city in that it pretty much exclusively functions as a banking town. The streets were immaculate, the bars and restaurants were glamorous but almost entirely devoid of any character or history. We had a good time none the less and the following anecdote is the memory of Charlotte which I shall carry with me on the rest of our travels. Our hosts take us out to a bar. It’s a good bar. Kez spins of to his own table with his host. His host is not fit. You wouldn’t, you just wouldn’t. However, when we noticed our very own Ricky Gervais showing a morsel of interest, our minds began to work. When Kez returned and his host retired to the bathroom, the conversation went something like this:
Boys “hows it going over there mate, you lucky dog, I recon she likes you”
Kez “do you think she’s fit then”
Boys “are you joking mate, look at her, you shouldn’t waste an opportunity if she gives you it, you’ll only regret it tomorrow”
Kez (deep in thought).
Needless to say, Kez woke up in the morning with a huge smile on his face which we promptly dismissed after letting him in on the joke. Credit where credit is due, he took it like the good lad he is. As I say, we’re writing this two weeks retrospectively, he doesn’t look like living it down at any point soon. Every cloud though, she gave us her guitar! Might have to look at whoring Kez out more often.
