Philadelphia was home to our first couch surfing experience. We waited nervously at the greyhound station and we were relieved when two pleasant girls arrived, Veronkia and Katie, arrived! Yeboah! The first evening involved two house parties, great food, beer pong and lots of alcohol. The first house part involved different types of American breakfast food (pumpkin pancakes, waffles and Frittata) and drinking on the roof overlooking the Phili skyline. The second party entailed beer pong, Ben and I (Ollie) are officially the reigning Champions of Phili 09/10 season - have that!! Andrew decided it was time to spring into action with the guitar after a couple of 40's (40 oz bottle of dirt cheap lager) mass singing ensued. Anglo-American relations were at an all time high. However, unfortunately some were more successful than others. Andrew then went onto make the deadly mistake of falling asleep before everyone else. Ben and Kez set to work and were in their element. The photo says it all! Anywho, I digress, we all had an amazing first experience of a genuine American house party, red cups and all.
The sightseeing day in Phili involved a lot of walking. The Liberty Bell was first on the list, all I can say that the end of the bell was astonishing. Rocky Steps proved difficult to track down but we got there in the end. We summoned enough strength to run up the steps (Andrew had to stop half way for a breather and a burger with fries) - see video for proof.
Our time in Phili came to an end too quickly, but we managed to cram in a Phili Cheese Steak, the most fatty, greasy, calorie riddled soggy meal that we shall ever devour (we obviously loved it) and breakfast at Morning Glory (they didn't understand our jokes with that name). Next stop - 2 days with Obama….
Andrew: There were a lot of steps and I was starving!
