We had a walk around Stubbekobing after breakfast and then prepared to set off under the two bridges and out into the open water between Lolland and Seeland. We cast off and went out into the channel taking care not to stray as one of our rally had on their way up, we did not intend to repeat his rock hopping. Under the first bridge with about 3m to spare and then the second, a rail and road way with slightly less and then out into this vast stretch of open water with little depth in places.
We had planned a route which was a tad tortuous and the only access from the east required a passage through some very shallow water. We got down to 2.2m and we need 2.0m so it was getting close. Doing about a knot through the water I called a ferry that was heading straight for us and he said I was in the wrong place and needed to turn to starboard. That appeared to me to be at odds with the bouy I was close to but I took his instruction and he responded with real friendliness thanking me for calling him and as he passed he came out of his bridge and waved. We quickly got into his wake and as we passed down it the depth increased somewhat to 3m+. The end of the passage brought us into the tiny haven of Kragenaes where we tried for the end of an earth pier and went aground so backed out and took a box.
A little while later I paid and asked if we could take the pier end and chatted about the depths, permission granted and depths explained we extricated ourselves from the box, narrowly avoiding removing one of the posts with my new davit, and winched ourselves across a little mud to the end of the pier.
Now the water level has increased and Jasper can walk on and off the boat unaided so that is a result. The 30nm trip round here required all my concentration and it was good to get in, we had used the sails to help us along in places but the route was frequently changing direction significantly so most of the trip was under motor, it had rained lightly for most of it too and occasionally blew over 20kn. Glad that is over, no more shallows till Holland!
The haven at Kragenaes is lovely, tomorrow as the forecast is foul we will go and look at the standing stones being carved as a memory to the Lolers?
