Hey guys...
How ya all goin?
Sorry it's been so long since I have updated- things have been pretty crazy lately- think it comes with actually having a job!! OMG I have been so tired- it's all good not having a job for a while- but when you get one- IT KILLS YOU!! Or maybe it's just my job? Whatever, I just find myself trying to catch up on sleep all the time!!
I have actually just got back from the lovely Surfers Paradise which is just north of Byron Bay and south of Brisbane. Was really excited to go, been one place I have been looking forward to and I have passed through it several times on the way to other places so I was really excited to actually stop and look around! Arrived on Tuesday morning, booked myself onto the No.1 party hostel (thought it was time I let my hair down and let loose!) Spent most of the first day looking around and exploring all the excited things hidden away in this little treasure, ended up in a 'Ripley's Believe it or not' museum which was really random- just couldn't resist!! Random is actually the perfect word for it- along with weird and wonderful! It was full of...what's the word....I want to say freaks but that is not very PC of me so I will say 'unusual people'. From the world's tallest man, world's fattest man, to how tribes used to shrink victims heads, well I could go on but I'll be here all day!! (If anyone wants to know more you can Google it and save my fingers!)So yeah that was really interesting, they had a big rolling machine like they have at theme parks and a laser light room, it was really cool- I enjoyed it!
The one bad thing about Surfers is the amount of building work that is going on there, to give you a little overview, Surfers was a little beach town with perfect waves for surfing and as it became more popularmore buildings appeared. To look at it now it is a lovely beach with a load of high risers along the beachfront, which has a really cool look about it- BUT, get this...they have built so many high risers along the beachfront that now they actually block the sun from the beach from 3pm onwards...I mean come on!! Seriously? Yeah I know...
At the same time it is still a lovely 'commercialised' town full of Surfers (obviously) Backpackers and tourists who come to surf and party!!!
The next day I went down the beach with a few new friends- Delia (Swiss) and Hannah (German) and guess what?!?!? I SWAM IN THE SEA!! Yes me! I am working on my dislike of the sea by throwing myself in there, although I probably picked the worst town to do it in as the waves are so strong!! But either way I am getting closer and closer to losing my fear of the sea ready for when I snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and of course- learn how to surf!!
Last night was the famous Backpackers Big Night out- where around 200 backpackers go out on the town to let loose! Well that was the bit I was looking forward to!! So westarted out with some goon to get things started, by that time I met some more friends, 2 Swedish girls names Joanna and Ellen so the group was getting bigger. The reps of the hostel that organise the night also took a shine to me and decided that I was awesome so they couldn't do enough for me- including buying me drinks all night and taking me to the best places! Sweet! It's great that my wonderful personality has been recognised!!Ha!!
So the night started even earlier with all of us together having a laugh and just to top things off- got a call from Shiany!! (The weLsh girl I was with on the farm- My Aussie BFF) She had come to surfer's paradise to surprise me! I was ooo excited to t see her and to finally meet her bloke Luke. It was short and sweet as I was being ushered out of the door to get the night started but it was so great to see her and catch up so that was an awesome start to and awesome night!! I won't go into my shenanigans of the night as I am sure you don't want to know...or is it that I can't remember??...huh either way I'm not telling!!We just went to 4 different clubs- Vanity, Shooters, Sin city and I have forgotten the name of the other one but they were all great clubs and me and the girls had a blast dancing away! The boys were on hand keeping an eye on us and of course supplying the drinks! It was such a great night, think I rolled in around 5am eventually? Everything was great until....
.....the alarm went off!! I was checking out today and OMG how I got up I just don't know!! It was hard so I forced myself up and out and straight to Macca's for not one but two Bacon and egg mcmuffins!! Hell yeah they did the trick and an hour later I was sunning it up on the beach until my ride arrived to take me home. I spent most of the afternoon hopping form one bus to another to get back home! I have now just put the kids to bed as mum and dad are out partying tonight and I'm so ready to crash out for however long I can get away with!!
Problem is since I arrived back in Tanah Merah there have been some cracking tropical storms!! Which is great for me as I love watching the perfect lightning strikes of a tropical storm; however I am in the house with a 2 and a 4 year old who are scared of the thunder and 2 dogs that are quivering at my feet! I don't much like the thunder either but I'm trying my best to be the grown up...
So that was the last few days, in the last month or so it has been pretty crazy busy, what with having 2 children in tow! Life has been pretty crazy, but we are having fun- I have really bonded with the children, well the whole family so it feels at lot more at home here now that I am settled.
With Christmas on the way it's been really strange being away from home, watching another family put their decorations up, the advent calendars and people planning for family to come... but on the up side, with 2 small children around it does make Christmas so much more exciting!! We have visited Santa quite a few times as the list gets longer, Christmas party at their play group and we are actually going to see Santa again tomorrow at the library so that should be fun!!
We also went around seeing the xmas lights the other day, OMG- I have never seen anything like it!! These people had turned their houses into winter wonderlands!! Literally- transformed their entire house and front garden so that you can walk in there! Check out the pictures on Facebook- you won't believe it until you see it!
Last week me and the boys went into Brisbane city to the Queensland Museum and to the science centre, we had a great day. It's perfect for kids and they were doing everything. Was fun for adults too though as you can all do things and be silly so we had a great day!
Monday is my last day working before I go off to NSW ready for the Christmas break- which I am really looking forward too! So I am flying from Brisbane on Tuesday morning arriving in Newcastle Tuesday lunchtime (either 12 hours there on the train/bus or fly and its only 2 hours!) All th Hutsons family are starting to arrive ready for Christmas so its about to get a little crazier!!
This will be my last blog until after Christmas, so I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and an awesome New Year!! (Hope its not too cold!)
Speak to you next year!! Bring on the best one yet- 2011!!
Lots of love to all xxxxx
Ps. If you have a white Christmas the first year I am away I'm NOT going to be happy!!
