G'day Guys!
How are you all doin?
As usual it's been busy, busy here down under getting ready to move on from Dingo Beach!
Finished work @ Dingo Beach pub on the 16th ready for a week of luxury! On my last day one of the girls gave me a book she had been making for weeks by the look of it- it was a souvenir book on the Whitsundays and she had everyone in the town sign it! Must have taken her ages but it was a really sweet gift that I will treasure forever so that was nice!
The following week was the last real time I had in Dingo and with Jason so we had to make the most of it! On Sunday we went and spent the morning in Bowen with his mum at the Fishing classic show which was nice. That afternoon we checked into The Whitsunday Terraces in Airlie Beach for a few nights away. We had some really nice days being really lazy by the pool and generally relaxing which was so nice, went out for dinner each night and did the 'holiday' thing which was strange cos I actually felt like I was on holiday instead of backpacking! A holiday from my holiday!!
On Wednesday we went skydiving. I must admit I was a little nervous at first but it was something that I had always wanted to do so I was also really excited!! Once we got there and got all suited up and ready to go off we went in our little plane and it was only me and Jason on the jump so that was good! The view over the islands before the jump was beautiful- worth going up just to see that or so I thought!! Not long after the door opened and the cold air came rushing in and was a little daunting when that start shuffling you towards the open door!! Jason went first and I just remember him sitting there one minute and falling out the next! Once we got to the door I remember him saying 'are you ready' and I was like- 'as I'll ever be' and off we went! It was such an amazing feeling- nothing like what I thought it was going to be! To top off the experience, the view was so breath taking you can't help but smile!! Far too soon the parachute went and we were floating over the islands just looking around for what seemed like ages until all of a sudden it's time to land. Such an amazing experience it just makes you wants to go and do it again!! But I did the next best thing and bought a DVD so I could relive it whenever I wanted!! Totally awesome!
The rest of the week was spent seeing everyone before I went. Saturday was my leaving party at the pub which was really great fun! I got some lovely little pressies from the locals and a bonus 'for being awesome' from my boss which was really sweet! Some of us dressed up too but by the end of the night I was wearing everyone else's outfit so I have no idea what I was supposed to be! I had a tarts outfit with fairy wings, a wand, a beer hat, a belt which hold beer cans and a sign around my neck with a copy of my passport saying 'rejected'- god knows what I looked like! But it all good fun and I had a ball!! Good way to go I reckon! Although all the locals seem pretty sure I'll be back! We'll see...
Sunday, I headed into Airlie Beach ready for my bus on Monday morning and I must say I was not in very good spirits! Saying goodbye to Jason was horrible and something I was never looking forward too so I had a very quiet night in...
Monday morning however I woke up in very good spirits and ready for the new adventure ahead to Townsville so off I went to the coach! I had forgotten how much I hated my backpack so that was an unwelcome surprise.
On arriving in Townsville I met a pommy girl called Laura and we spent the afternoon exploring Townsville and had a nice cold beverage in one of the many bars before ending an exhausting day on the hostel with a group of girls we had met.
I must admit Townsville was not as good as I was hoping or maybe my expectations were a little high from all the other amazing places I had been! I think cos me and Laura were exploring together we were so busy chatting that we ended up walking past half the things we wanted to see!!
Anyway, the next day we headed over to Magnetic Island which is just a ferry ride away- not that you would know it! Seemed like a hidden treasure hidden behind a big bad city. Like many of the islands I have visited in Oz it was a little piece of paradise! The hostel we were in is right on the beach with amazing views and little huts to stay in and has a great night life and best of all- steak and chips for 10 bucks! Happy days!!
After arriving the rest of the day was spent settling in and looking around the island via public transport. We found a nice little spot where one of the locals was feeding about 30 rock wallabies so we sat there with him feeding them while the sun was setting before heading back to the hostel for a well earned rest!!!
The next day we decided to have a bit of a snorkel around the best part of the islands, originally we were going to do it by bus but as with most public transport we got annoyed and ended up hiring out a car for half a day. It was the cutest little thing. Like a mini four wheel drive but it was 'topless' and bright pink- was so cool so we were bazzing around in that for the arvy! We had a little trek (wasn't little at all actually!) to a place called Florence bay which was supposed to be the best place for snorkelling the reef and had a good old look around there- the reef is so lovely I could look at it all day! There is also a shipwreck a few hundred metres off the Shore of Maggie Island which we wanted to swim out and see but unfortunately due to high tide we ran out of time! I ended up buying my own snorkel today so there will be no stopping me now!!
The next morning Laura and I went to something called breakfast with the animals- which was exactly what it sounds like! We went to a place called Bungalow Bay and had a big slap up buffet brekkie with champagne, bacon, eggs, fish, lamb, cereal, pancakes- you name it! Even toast you cook yourself over the campfire! During breakfast we were surrounded by crocs, koalas and snakes which was a little strange at first! After brekkie I had a cuddle with a koala and a snake to finish the morning off nicely! After brekkie I said goodbye to Laura as she was off to Cairns and I went and met up with my friend Sam from Dingo Beach. We decided to take the kayaks out around the bay and do some fishing. Was nice to boat around the bays- although very tiring! Once we got out to the point where we wanted to fish the wind picked up a bit too much so we had to head back in which was a shame but I'm glad we did as paddling the kayak in against the wind was such hard work! I felt like my arms had run a marathon by time I got back but it was well worth it! That evening I met up with another friend that I met in Brisbane who lives here on Maggie Island for dinner. That was really nice, good catch up and few glasses of wine!
On Saturday Jason arrived, was great to see him! We met in Townsville for a nice lunch and wander before heading over to the island and spent the day chilling out together with a few drinks and catching up which was really nice. He left on Sunday morning for the long drive back to Dingo so had to say goodbye to him again which sucked but what can you do? I moved from the hostel I have been in this week at the south of the island to one on the north end as I came up here earlier in the week and it looked really nice so I thought Ill have another few days of chill out on the island before heading off again!
I intend on having a nice lazy day on the beach tomorrow before heading back to Townsville on Tuesday for a night and then back on the move again to Mission Beach on Wednesday!
Speak to you all soon xxx
