First thing we had to do today was put the L of GTL into action - that is, we had to do our laundry as a matter of urgency as Brendan had run out of clean undies! We walked our big bag of dirty intimates down to the local laundromat and spent approximately 15 mins trying to decipher the french instructions. After a bit of disagreement and a lot of frustration, Brendan finally figured it out so this gave us 45 mins to find ourselves a meal nearby.
We once again found ourselves at Jacques Boulangerie - the same one from the other day...I can't even begin to describe how amazing all the food looked. There was so many varieties of freshly baked quiches, lasagnas, dessert tarts and more. I hoped to take a photo but the lady behind the counter looked less than patient..or friendly.
After scoffing down our delicious baguettes, we headed back to the laundromat to figure out the dryers this time! After completing our first chore since the beginning of our holidays, we headed back to the hotel for a much needed rest.
An episode or 2 of Jersey Shore later, we finally left the hotel for some sightseeing for the day. We made our way to Montmartre (the old Paris) and hiked up the hundreds of stairs to the beautiful Sacre Coeur basilica. It was breathtakingly beautiful inside, and after spending some time walking around looking at the beautiful sculptures and pictures, we took a seat underneath the most magnificent mosaic that stretched over the entire dome of the basilica and took some time to reflect and think of our loved ones back home.
We then made our way up hundreds of more stairs to take in the views of Paris from within the dome. Well it's true what they say - no pain, no gain..and the burn in my muscles was definitely worth the views waiting on the other side.
We then wandered through the old cobblestone streets of Montmartre checking out the colourful little stalls selling all kinds of cheeses, meats, fruits, and veggies. Seeing all the delicious temptations on display started our tummies rumbling so we stopped at a bustling cafe for some happy hour beers and wines along with a delicious cheese and meat platter.
On the way back to the metro, we stopped in at the Moulin Rouge and took the obligatory tourist photo before making our way back to the hotel (see photo in album).
With a bit of booze belly eventuating from taking full advantage of happy hour, the routine McD's stop had to be made on the way home! Interesting fact: McDonalds in Europe have machines where you can electronically submit your order and there's a separate line which is given priority - much like the VIP line in Event cinemas. We used it and it was super quick - really handy when you are starving!
