No alarm was sent for this morning for obvious reasons (see previous blog entry), so we woke up at our leisure and found ourselves a quaint little French cafe where we sat down for a Sunday Brunch (big thing in Paris apparently). Both Brendan and I were really surprised by how the tables and chairs are arranged at all the restaurants. Everybody sits in long rows facing the street, not their company just like you're in a cinema - very ideal for people watching!
Brendan and I each had a croque monsieur avec frites which was delicious and then headed over to check out our first Parisian sight - the Arc de Triomphe.
After that, we made our way back to the hotel so Brendan could watch the Monaco GP. I might have complained under different circumstances, but as previously mentioned - I was in desperate need of an afternoon nap!
In the evening we took a cruise down the River Seine where we saw all the major sites, and then headed over to see the Eiffel Tower. From afar I thought - meh no big deal - it looks like a big brown phone tower. However as we came closer and I could see in detail how the steel almost resembled lace - I fell in love! We waited around as the sun set for the tower to be lit up, and it was even more beautiful at night :)
We then headed over to the lively Latin quarter (Saint Michel) which was so busy considering it was already 10:30pm on a Sunday night. We stopped in at a French restaurant for our second meal of the day where I opted for the traditionals - french onion soup and beef bourguignon. Soooo delicious!!
