We woke up early to go on a boat cruise to Locarno Switzerland with the whole family. We drove to Arona where we got on board a large ship that would cruise up the lake across the border and into Switzerland. The boat ride was very relaxing and the scenery along the lake was picture perfect. We cruised up the lake, stopping every now and then to pickup passengers from other little ports along the way. Lunch was served on the ship and we enjoyed a typical italian feast. For starters we had a cheesy risotto and pasta pomodoro, for mains we had some salt and pepper fish with baked potatoes and glazed carrot, for dessert we had a jaffa cake along with the usual accompanients of bread, red wine and espresso. Needless to say, we were completely full by the end of lunch. The cruise was 4 hours to Locarno where we then had just under 2 hours to walk around the narrow streets of the swiss village. It was very upmarket with high end shops and eateries. We walked up the hill to the local church which was very nice (as you come to expect in Europe) and then we walked through the markets, browsing the wares of the local craftsmen (and women).
We made our way back to the ship and cruised back to Arona. We were still so full from lunch that we didn't need to eat on the way back. Once we arrived at our destination, we went to Gianfranco and Anna's (Roberto's parents') restaurant. Anna had made a lovely feast, with a variety of seafood dishes to start, some grilled steak, stuffed and grilled vegetables and salads for mains and seasonal summer fruits for dessert along with bread, red wine and espresso (the usual suspects). We left their restaurant completely satified and ready for bed.
As you can tell, we have been eating very well here in Italy. It is amazing that the Italians can eat so well yet not be the size of houses. We are enjoying the food here but we know it won't be like this all over Italy - there is nothing like a home cooked meal.
Arrivederci.
