We probably had the best sleep last night since the beginning of our trip. I don't know if it was the spacious room, the plump pillows or the knowledge that over a thousand people hadn't slept in the bed prior to us - but we woke up feeling very refreshed. We went to Novara city and walked around the little shops and la duomo (the church) before making our way to the train station to buy our tickets for the remainder of our tour around Italy. We ducked into a local shopping centre for a quick bite to eat and to walk around some more shops, and then made our way to Vicolungo (a very large shopping outlet much like our DFO) for more shopping! I must point out though that we didn't purchase a single thing all day!
We then stopped in to visit Vivien's cousin - Stella, her husband Loris and Leonardo, their gorgeous 6 month old and their new house. After a brief catchup, we made our way back to Uncle Tony's for a brilliant home cooked meal, courtesy of Aunty Antonia. As I was practically licking my bowl clean after a massive serving of tagliatelle bolognese, Brendan softly nudged me under the table to inform me that this was simply the starter! What followed was Bruschetta, roast chicken, roast mashies, peas with pancetta, gelato and vienetta, red wine and coffee! Mama mia, do the Italians know how to eat! We took some time after this to all relax in front of the tv to allow our bodies to adjust to the shock of carb overload.
The real highlight of our Italy trip so far has been my new friend Sofia. She is two and a half years old and is definitely full of personality. She talks in fluent Italian with a cute lisp and the accent, intonation and hand actions to match. She is obsessed with water (l'aqua), boats (la barca), trucks (camione) and smelling yucky things and yelling puzza (smelly) and forcing me to smell it. She is so cute that she has everyone wrapped around her little fingers.
Caio for now.
