Day 205, 25 January 2013, Bansko, Bulgaria. Stunning day on the slopes, new powder everywhere, perfect visibility, but with the sun filtered through clouds, no risk of sunburn. Stunning skiing weather. Loads of whizzing elegantly down the pistes and whilst I still get a bit tuckered out after 2-3 hours of non-stop skiing, James is carrying the flag for Team-NotBeingGrownups. However, we appear to have created a monster. Our current guide is called Marin (which we suspect is the cool, slightly hipper version of his christened "Marian"). Marin has continued James's introduction to forest skiing and short of him kissing a tree I think he's addicted. Skiing in the forest. In powder. Perfectly. So tranquil. So incredible. So enjoyable. So unlikely I'll be having a crack at it anytime soon.... In my immortal twenties I skydived several times. The instructor always said avoid the trees when you come in to land the parachute. Of course he qualified it with "If you're heading towards power-lines, then aim for the trees." I think it had a salutary effect on my attitude towards trees and hurtling down mountains. Who knows, after a couple of days lazing about the chalet, which is under snow, fending off Bulgarian breakfast food and downloading the odd movie, I too might be hurtling between trees early next week. I'll never ever know, if I never ever go.
