Day 192, 12 January 2013, Bansko, Bulgaria www.banskoski.com
As you can imagine, we've slept in a whole lot of places over the last six months. From the sublime to the ridiculous. Brand new, to hundreds of years old. Great beds, horrible beds and hovels with nothing we'd even call a bed. Last night officially receives the honour of second worst bed on the trip so far. Only the absence of body odour saved it from being the worst. It seems Bulgarians stereotypical persona of grumpiness may be a function of them sleeping on wooden boards with two inches of padding. In any event the issue was sorted out and we're now in the best room in the chalet for the next three weeks. Job done. However the upshot of little sleep and a crippled back after 32 hours of travel was a very, very (very), quiet day. And grumpy. You'd almost have thought I was Bulgarian. Had a cracking dinner though - little restaurant around the corner from us in the old town square (just near the Holy Trinity Church pictured above). Outstanding. And cheap. Which is, face it, why we came to Bulgaria in the first place. Back to our massive room and comfy bed for a serious catch up on rest - hitting the slopes tomorrow!
