Discovery Cove today. Wow! Wow! Wow! Awesome!! Booked in and was given a 9.35 Dolphin slot. Got our snorkel, masks and wetsuits - all booted and suited after a fantastic breakfast. Food was brilliant - eggs, sausage, fruit, danish pastries, juices, cereals.
First we met Sasha, a beautiful 300lb Dolphin - only 6 years old, fairly young we were told. She swam by for us to stroke her, she feels every touch we are told. Dolphins respond to hand signals so once we were taught the hand signal we were able to ask her to make noises, wave with her fins and tail and she was also sweet enough to give us some kisses and cuddles. Next we met Rose (or nosey Rosie as she is called) who was about 500lbs and 16 years old. Rich and Liam both had Rose for their deep water tow (we man to get her back with a bit of fun and dancing - after she had disappeared to say hello to her friends!) for the other people in our group wanting a deep water tow we had to borrow Kayleigh from Group C! So Harrison, Luke and I went for our shallow water tows.
First I sent Harrison, Rich was waiting to receive him. He was fighting me the whole time "I'm not kissing a dolphin, I"m not having a ride, I want to get out!" however, I wasn't giving in! We had a family photo with all five of us and Luke had a cuddle photo. Anyway, I walked Harrison up to Rose (we got her back by now!!) reassuring him and the trainer explained how to hold onto her top fin with your right hand and her side fin with your left hand. Harrison held her top fin and it was amazing to feel his whole body relax and as he held onto her side fin she set off taking him with her. I think I held my breath whilst smiling with delight whilst nearly bursting into tears as I was so proud he'd done it. By the time he reached Rich he was grinning from ear to ear! Luke loved his tow and it was amazing to feel the awesome power of a dolphin towing you across the water with such ease! Pictures are awesome too!
Next a bit of snorkelling and looking at the fish and stingrays as they swam by you! Otters and Marmosetts (Monkeys) were cute and we actually spent most of the day in the water (even when it rained - which was really weird!) and during that time (tears nearly again!!) Harrison swam (only a few metres) unaided!! It was definitely a wow moment. We left the water to eat again.
Luke spent majority of his time underwater with his snorkel kit!
Amazing food once again!! However, we soon got back in the water again, just floating about and chilling out. Definitely a fantastic day out, well worth the visit. 10/10 from everyone!!
