We finally climbed in to bed sometime around 2am SL time (9.30am'ish NZ time) and slept for about 4 hours. We awoke in a purple haze....literally. We were up and tuk tuk'ing into Negombo town by 8.30am to get some breakfast and sort out our phones. We achieved the breakfast reasonably easily….'pointing' at some unknown delicacies in a 'Cafe' (I use that term loosely) that looked more like a 'garage', and joining the locals in eating food that shall remain nameless (as we still have no idea what it was) but tasty. The phone issue became a drama...involving many death defying feats (crossing roads), orienteering skills (minus a compass) and a lot of footwork (we traipsed forever) in 31 degrees! Sigh. Breakfast had, phones sorted and shops perused...we called out trusty tuk tuk driver to get us back to the hotel where we took our melting, weary bodies and soothed them in the pool. Ahhhh bliss!!! Before having an early night, we witnessed a mass exodus of bird life ,,,,100's (no Sam and Luke - I am not exaggerating!) of birds flying south (we have found out that they all settle for the night on certain trees out of town, before returning the next day), and we witnessed a stunning sunset. Nice.
