Got out in the afternoon, did our first exploration of Rome. Made our way from Termini to the Piazza Della Repubblica, where we viewed a fountain before walking down Via Nazionale. Followed it to the Piazza Venezia, dominated by the Monument A Vittorio Emanuele II, an absolutely massive monument dedicated to the unifier of Italy. The monument, known to locals as the 'wedding cake' or the 'typing machine', overlooks a large section of Roman ruins, including a spire from the second century AD. After this, we make our way to the Fontana Di Trevi, which is absolutely packed with tourists, but is beautiful nonetheless. After tossing a coin each into the fountain (to ensure our safe return to Rome), we go up to the Villa Borgese, a beautiful park area to take a brief nap. After, we make our way to the Spanish Steps to meet my Aunt Marilyn.
