I am having a quiet day - Tuesday - after two very busy/stressful days getting here and getting organised. Had a lovely long walk this morning all around Cap d'Antibes - playground of the rich and famous. A bit like walking around Vaucluse and WAtsons Bay in Sydney but with much more serious money. Then i have been sitting at the private pool here in the garden which is very lovely - weather is wonderful. Stopped for coffee and croissant on the beach at Plage de la Garoupe this morning on my walk which is a bit like Doyle's on the beach in Sydney where I had a table on the sand with water just a couple of metres away.
Getting to my house exchange was a challenge on a sunny Sunday afternoon when every man and his dog was leaving the beach and I was lost. Also headed off from the airport in the wrong direction, held up traffics at highway tolls as I did not have change and a whole pile of other misdemeanours I prefer to forget. Finally got to the house to find the code would not open the security gate and it was by now around 6pm. Only option was to climb over the gate which was thankfully not too difficult and did manage to locate the key in the agreed place. Inside is another story - lounge and kitchen on ground level with a bathroom are acceptable beach house accommodation. Bedrooms are downstairs below ground very damp and dark with poor lighting. Had to mop up water leaks, change sheets then had a shower and to bed as I was exhausted. Yesterday I walked all day to get my head around the area and now I think I am OK. Also had a monumental job getting an internet setup for France but now it works. Antibes is a really lovely town with a lovely old village section then the boats and yachts moored and out at sea and then the beaches stretching at least as far as Bronte to bonding with similar walkway. Later I am going to the airport to pick up my friend Susan from UK who will be with me for 2 weeks.
Update later:
Susan and I realise that the water leak has got worse and it is sewerage water so I email the owner and let her know that we are moving out for obvious reasons. She offers to pay for hotel for 3 nights in compensation and we manage to do some sightseeing around Antibes which is really a lovely place. The moving is disruptive and stressful.
