Spent another day looking at museums and historic houses. The morning at Auckland Museum (also known as Auckland War Memorial Museum - but the war memorial is rather marginalised to the upper floor, sadly although the actual memorials are beautiful as are all the stained glass panels) Went to the Maori performance which was interesting to see how all the objects i've seen on display are actually used. Then spent another couple of hours walking round the rest of the displays (natural history was especially scary - even more creepy than normal and i'm still disturbed by the cases of live things especially the starfish seemingly trying to eat a snail on the outside of the case...) the volcanoes section was very good
after a picnic lunch on the lawn infront I then wandered to Parnell and visited Kinder House (slightly odd collection of the home of a watercolourist (Kinder) but all reproduction images and no actual furniture from the original house...) and then went to St Mary's Church and Trinity Cathedral (next to each other because one was wheeled across the road?!?!) but both beautiful and on to Highwic another historic house in Newmarket which was gorgeous
