Ok so the photo is not really here (its rotorua but its as near as i could see in their list!) Have come to Taupo (literally for an afternoon) to see the lake and huka falls (a hot thermal spring - although no time for a dip) the lake fills the cauldera (spelling?!) of the volcano underneath but the last eruption was a very long time ago (1800 years i think but don't quote me as my travel guide is nowhere near so i may have just invented that number - a high probability) its a very pretty spot but a bland looking town looks a bit like a retail park....
This morning I went for a wander round the shops in Napier (this is a BAD BAD thing!) i should not be allowed near shops and pretty things! So I bought a beautiful set of pink beads, a book on Louis Hay (the architect behind most of Napier), 2 pairs of earrings, postcards but managed to avoid dresses shoes and handbags - think i need a rich bloke first! After pottering round most of the shops i visited the local museum which was quite sweet - although the guy behind the ticket desk was a worthy display in himself (half his head shaved and then dyed with a leopard print the other half in a spiked kind of mohican and then a black shirt with green leopard print details - loving the scalp / shirt coordination) again had to resist pretty things in the museum shop as they had a bautiful collection of resin jewellery!
then the 30s dress shops had opened and the situation became critical - in fact i'm only not coming home with a beautiful red and black bead flapper dress as I know i can get it online..... fab furs and hats and jewellery etc etc etc in heaven but just soooo dangerous! Grabbed lunch before my bus to Taupo. Having got here i walked down to the lake (no steam rising mum so i think i'm probably safe from an eruption for today) and then walked towards the thermal stream at Huka Falls (20 mins the guidebook said... 40 more like) anyways its very pretty even if it looks like it comes out of a plastic sewer pipe?!?! promise i'll put the photos up when i get back and then you can see for yourselves.
So tomorrow i have the trip to Auckland and a few days there then home, where has my holiday gone? and do i have to come home?
