Well the bay of islands was and is a nice location, but there isnt much to do unless you are going whale watching or sky diving or some other activity that we had all already done. Plus the fact that we where all running a little low on cash, we didnt see the point in spending money on trips we had already done. So for the 3 days that we were (Olly, Kirsty, Vicky and me) up there we just sunbathed and watched tv.
On the first day Oli and I decided to try and swim to one fo our own islands. So we set off from the beach after planning out our root. We had been swimming about 30 mins when we noticed that we would be swimming through a busy boat lane where all the tour bouats and ferrys would be passing through back to the main land. But being MEN we decided to carry on, after about another 10 mins (40 mins in total) we were surrounded by boats and b4 we knew it a large dophin boat had come up behind us. The nice woman tour guide told us that it wasnt safe to swim in the water there and they would have to pick us up and take us back towards the beach !!!! We were gutted not to make it, but also glad for the lift back. We laughed at the fact that it must of been strange for the poor people on the boat, who had apparently not seen any dolphins all day but had rescued 2 swimmers out in the sea. So that was our adventure for the day.... we did however not get put down by this set back and tried again the following day, but to a different island. It took about 30 mins to swim there and the same back but at least we had made it to an island in the Bay Of Islands.
The rest of our time was spent being a tad bored so it was good that we all had each other for company. Oli left a day earlyer than us. But the following day the rest of us returned to Auckland where we had a quiet night at the pics (Blood Diamond... Very VERY good).
The following day i said my goodbye's to kirtsy, vicky and New Zealand set off to the airport. My flight was at 19:50 so i took a shuttle bus to the air port that would get me there just over an hour early. I arrived to find an empty check-in desk, so i checked in and i could hear a woman talking about closing a gate and the lady helping me told her that she would check me in first and then she could close it. When she was done she told me i had to run to security and to the boring gate. I told her she must be mistaken as i wasnt due to fly till 19:50. "your flight is at 19:05" she said. "NO" i told her as i took out my ticket to show her, then realised that she was right arrrggghhhh, so she continued to tell me to run to security and the boarding gate as they were now boarding. Happy to say that i made it though. so all smiles.
And that was New Zealand. Highlights were obviously Jumping out of a plane. But the Glacier walk turned out to be a top day as did the paintballing and ludgeing (cant spell). As usual i met some awesome friends. Andy, Dave, Dutchie, Kirsty, Vicky, Flo and Oli. The landscape is stunning and would recomend every one to visit at least once in your life.... oh and also Jump out of a plane.
Will write about Fiji soon.
