Hi, luckily Rarotonga has been a completely different story to Fiji, most importantly the weather has been very good (apart from the first day when it rained throughout) which has meant that we can actually how beautiful the island is and make the most of our time here. The beaches and the sea are arguably the most beautiful we've seen so far and the snorkelling has been very good. Not as much coral as Fiji but just as many fish which seem to all be twice the size of anywhere else and the visibility is excellent.
So we've spent most of the week on the beach and in the sea or pool (yes, our hostel has a pool - accommodation is a million times better here!). We were lucky to be upgraded for the first 4 nights too so had a nice ensuite room. Hired bikes one day to ride around the island, all 32 kms of it. This proved a lot harder than expected, mainly due to the heat, but was worth it as we got to see much more of the island and spent some time at a beautiful lagoon on the other side of the island to us.
Going to an 'Island Night' tonight to get a cultural show. Thought we ought to as you don't really get a sense of the culture here, seems to be more of an extension of New Zealand really.
Checking out of our hostel tomorrow to move to a hotel for one day, courtesy of Air New Zealand thanks to them cancelling our direct flight to Tahiti meaning a day of travelling via Auckland rather than the original 1 and a bit hours we originally booked. Not happy but couldn't miss French Polynesia for the sake of a few hours flying.
So will be in Tahiti on Saturday where we're planning to go over to Moorea, a nearby island for most of the week. Hope it's as nice as here...!
