Hi, at last a picture that relates to somewhere we actually are! This is Moorea island in the French Polynesia where we stayed for 3nights the day after we arrived in Tahiti. Beautiful island but the weather hadnt been good before we got there so the visibility wasnt that good for snorkelling unfortunately. So there wasnt a lot else that we could do there and we decided to come back to Tahiti for our last few days.
Must just say, it is sooo expensive here - not just for accommodation although this is particularly expensive, also food and just everything! Needless to say we have been quite restricted in what we have been able to do but the islands are so stunning that luckily you dont actually need to do a lot apart from use your eyes.
There is one thing that is pretty cheap here actually, French sticks! Have eaten a hell of a lot of baguettes since wev been here. It is actually just like being in France here which we should have expected i suppose, the name of the country is a bit of a given, but we somehow expected it to be a bit more Polynesian or something. Not at all apart from the polynesian looking people and women with flowers behind their ears, until they open their mouths that is and start speaking in French. Our little knowledge of the language has luckily not been too much of a problem, the people differ from those actually in France and are quite willing to speak in English when possible!
Anyway, so we came back to Tahiti yesterday and are staying in a house full of French/Brazilians....pretty random i know but we were given the name of one of them by a Brazilian girl we met at our hostel in Rarotonga and it is a lot cheaper than any form of hotel and quite comfortable so ok for 3 nights til we fly to LA on Saturday. We are hoping to go and see the first day of the Billabong International pro surf competition on the island tomorrow but it is currently peeing it down so i guess will depend on the weather as to whether it will be on. Fingers crossed as Michael could definately do with some tips from Kelly Slater!
Next stop LA....
