Hello all. We've been having a lovely relaxing time in New Zealand for about 2 weeks now. Based in Auckland at Graham's house (Nicola's relly) with Nicola's mum. We have spent our time doing trips around the area, eating good food and relaxing in the luxury of a westernised country. We can drink the water from the taps and everything!
We all went north for a mini road trip a few days ago and got stranded in the largest flooding of 150 years which is basically the largest flooding known in the area for the entire history of NZ seeing as their history only goes back about that long! We visited some nice bays and harbours and did a trip up to the Cape at the northern most point, although we couldn't actually see anything because of the heavy rain... Got to do some excellent sand boarding which wasn't affected by the weather, just made it faster so that was good. Stayed in a hostel in the middle of nowhere for a couple of nights and where we found out that the Italian owner once played football for Torrington - small world!
We have now just got back from a 2 day tour of the Coromandel peninsular, another very scenic coastline, staying the night at Graham's sister's very nice beach house. Today we went to a hot water beach where extremely hot water seeps up from underground through the sand, at times so hot you can't stand in it. We're now planning to drive down to Rotorua tomorrow, a town in the centre of the north island where there is lots of thermal activity. Lots of bubbling mud pools, geysers and hot springs, the whole place stinks of rotten eggs too which is nice!
There's a possibility that mum will be doing a sky dive with Michael in a couple of days, she's still undecided but i think open to persuasion, unlike myself. Will let you know whether she takes the plunge, hopefully with photographic evidence...
By the way, some messages would be good once in a while...!
Cheers for now, Nicola and Michael
