I allowed myself a cheeky little lay in this morning but was still up about 9am. I grabbed a shower and then helped Jade with making Shane and Krishmas room up as we were picking them up today and they were staying for the night. We sorted out the macaroni for dinner too before heading off to Jades mum and dads farm to do some work. Jade had to mark up which ones were dry or not producing enough milk to be culled in the next few days. Whilst she did that, I had to check each cow off against a list as they came past on the rotary milker. This was harder than it sounded as there were over 500 coming through! Their poo stinks too as they're fed grain whereas Jades cows are fed grass. A few of them pooed right infront of us which I wasn't overly impressed with. Towards the end Jade stopped the milker and got me to shove my hand up a cows bum. She artificially inseminates cows for a living so the whole tour, people were saying I'd never try it when I got to Jades. Well, I did. And it's not something I'll be doing again. Not only did I violate an actual cow, it was also bloody disgusting! My stomach turned and although I smiled for the pictures her mum was taking, I was being violently sick on the inside. But it was cool to know what Jade experiences day in day out for several months of the year. All I'll say is that she doesn't get paid enough! I was able to meet her mum and uncle while I was there too which was nice. She showed me the piglets on the way home as she knows I love them.
We weren't home long before we had to go and meet Shane and Krish from their bus. They were over an hour late so its a good job Jade and I can talk for hours! They finally turned up and we went home for dinner and a catch up. I tried whitebait patties tonight too which I was impressed with myself for doing! Apparently they're a delicacy in New Zealand. Hmm, not so sure about that!
We sat chatting and chilling for the rest of the evening until Jade spotted the milk tanker coming down the road. 'TANKER TANKER QUICK!!' she shouted as all 4 of us jumped up to put our shoes on and got in the car. Mass panic was on everyone's face - Shane and Krish didn't know what the hell was going on and Jade and I didn't want to miss it! All she's done since I got here is bang on about the milk tankers that come to pick the milk up that they get from their cows. But it usually comes in the middle of the night so I thought I'd missed it. Hence the panic/excitement when it came early tonight! We got down to the shed jut as the driver was
connecting the truck to the vat so we got to see the whole process. The milk that I had got was in this tank so it was extra exciting for me! It was also good to see what happens as you never really think about it when you get your milk out the fridge! We left the tanker to it and headed in to bed. That was far too much excitement for one day!.......
