I woke up this morning after a cold nights sleep on the air bed. Gareth's girlfriend got up and went home and I got up soon after. I was driving to the west coast today so Gareth cooked me a BBQ breakfast so I was well fed before I went! It was a gorgeous morning, sunny and warm, so we ate out on the balcony. We chatted for a bit but I wanted to get on the road as it was going to take about 4 hours to get to Jades.
I filled up again and hit the road. I drove via Arthur's Pass and it was just before here that the weather turned. It had been a lovely drive till then! It was foggy and raining hard, which was the last thing I needed really. The steep, winding roads were a bit scary on my own, especially when you can see places where trucks have gone over the edge! But I carried on nevertheless and got through it to the other side. I was making good time too considering. Jade had given me directions to Lake Ianthe and I'd made it there in about 3 hours. I waited here until she called me with further directions. I still managed to get it wrong. The road breaks out into farm land and I misinterpreted her instructions and consequently ended up driving onto 2 wrong farms, one of which being her parents. Yep, good one! She called me again as she obviously knew I had ballsed up and stayed on the phone while we played the 'what can you see' game. This game worked and I finally found her and her farm! It was awesome and so good to see her! We had a cup of tea and had a gossip and catch up - like we'd been friends for years. I really felt at home here too. Her partner Jock came in from the farm after a while and I met him etc. He's a nice bloke. We had steak for dinner and then just chilled with a few drinks. It was so nice to be in a proper home! I discovered their amazing dishwasher too, definitely want one of those when I grow up! It was raining hard tonight and just a I was being told about their power cuts, we had one! Luckily, I'd downloaded a torch app on my phone about a week ago and I'd been waiting for an excuse to use it! This was it and I was so excited! We lit a candle and sat round that for a while till the power came back on. Jade also unplugged the phone line as there are burn marks on the wall where the lightening had fried the wire when it struck!
We decided to go to bed and I was shattered. The heater was on in my room so it was toasty and warm but I didn't realise the electric blanket was on too! I found out the following morning that Jade had put it on at 1pm and forgotten! No wonder it was so bloody hot!! The rain carried on falling for most of the night but strangely I didn't care. I was so glad to be here and knew the next few days would be awesome, whatever the weather. I hit wish we didn't live the other side of the world to each other......
