The next morning we woke up to our first freezing cold morning which gave us some additional problems in getting ourselves ready as we had to do it all in the Guzzler. However, we soon got on our way and it was in no time at all that we were crossing the Croatian/Slovenian border.
Slovenia - just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Steep valleys with tree-filled slopes; picturesque villages with their Austrian style buildings; and a river winding its way to the capital Ljubjana. What more could you ask? Would Ljubljana manage to live up to its surrounding countryside? The answer is "Yes"! A lovely city and a pleasure to visit. Slovenia is definitely a place to visit and well recommended. Our favouritest place so far by a mile.............and we haven't visited the pretty bit yet (Lake Bled).
Actually we nearly changed our plans, because of the weather, to swap Lake Bled and Salzburg for a trip through Northern Italy. However, we were looking out over Ljubljana castle in the mid afternoon when the clouds lifted their skirts to reveal the mighty snow-capped Alps towering over the city. Up to now they were totally hidden by the cloud and mist. This sight inspired us to stay on our original course if at all possible (weather-wise). After some research we agreed that the weather forecast was good enough to stick to our original plan. Fantastic!

Hattie Glad you have found Slovenia. It is a beautiful country - hope the roads have improved since we were there. I agree Ljublgana is a small and quaint capital. Hope you make it to Bled on your way to Salzburg and the roads hold up for you. Just to let you know Nick that there will be plenty yo occupy you with on your return. By the way the Thursday Tennis Bums have agreed it will be your turn to drop out on your return according to our revised rota.
Wigs the weather has done the same here going from a sunny and warm 24/25 to a wet and windy14/15degrees ! you haven't missed much in the form of national sport with England being awful in the football and the rugby...the only silver lining being we have qualified for the Euro's! Badminton coming on strong...be afraid :) Snow in Zell am Zee which is about 1hr from Salzburg, hope you've got your thermals!
