SMOKE ME A KIPPER - I'LL BE BACK FOR BREAKFAST
Finally Hello!!!!
Its actually Friday 2nd June now...
Sorry about the delay but Its really hard to find the time to write- also i have tried twice before but a power cut lost everything so i got pissed off and left it for a while..lol!
So I am now at the airport in Koh Samui waiting to catch my flight to Kuala Lumpar to meet with Selina (who i was meant to meet yesterday- sorry Sel) and start our 2 week tour of Malaysia.
Ok so I arrived at my 1st stop in Bangkok on Tues 16th May. I stayed with my thai friend from university all week and did soo much that it seems like i was there for about 3 weeks instead of 5 or so days..... I stayed in his condo just outside the centre (a condo may sound nice but it was pretty basic and he is very very well off).
Bangkok was...... urm lets say different! The culture and everything else was slightly suprising and also not suprising. Basically the city is crazy and anything goes- and i do mean anything!!! I saw temples including Wat Pho Thai massage school, the Grand palace, Thai boxing at the Ratchadamn stadium, some shopping and generally soaking up the very different culture whilst spending quite a lot of time with thai people. I went out a hell of a lot to clubs, bars etc and was usually the only western looking guy in any one place. People stared a lot and I was always concious of eyes watching me..... the girls definitely love western guys here...and so do the (bent) boys and sicko lady boys that wink and follow you!!! Theres a lot of (something about Miriam's" here!) I drank way too much and slept hardly at all in Bangkok and was a mess by the time i had to leave...... it looked liked i had 2 black eyes (see photos).
The city was so humid the whole time- it was hard to breathe and you get tired really quickly there. The driving was just a joke- no rules!!!! Every time I got in a car I swear I could sense "death" sitting next to me having a smoke whist sharpening his reaper. Loads of people just jetting around on mo peds running people over and the roads are constantly congested etc. This together with the fact that I didn't see one bin for my whole time there makes a very dirty city...... oh i did see a woman scrape a few untouched meals into the river (Mae Nam Chao Phraya) together with a bin bag- my face was a picture (what the hell!). Think the river is the sewage/garbage pit!
Anyway yeah bangkok was full of people, lots of smells (some good, lots bad), very congested, hot and sticky & there were stray dogs everywhere going around in packs - was kinda funny though. But the main thing you notice there is that there is a massive gap between rich and poor- no in between. You either live in a semi nice/nice apartment with a car or live in a shack on the river or some other bad area selling dodgy food on the road side.
Even though the city has a lot of problems its still a cool city that never sleeps and has a lot of beautiful architecture at the temples and is very cheap even though I think still spent a lot of money there. The Thai culture seems to encourage good relations between everyone and its very common for people to smile a lot at each other even if you are saying no to an annoying market saleman or a street kid hanging off you legs..... Could I live in Bangkok??? I would struggle......
By the way yes i saw the champons league final while i was there- very drunk and couldn't believe losing in the final 15mins- gutted!!!!
So I left Bangkok on Sunday21st May for Koh Samui and the other islands which I have already been to but will hopefully be able to tell you about soon as I'm way behind on this thing and will prob forget a lot of stuff!
