Hi guys! I´m not actully in Argentina at the moment but up in Bolivia, but as I like to collect the little flags on my blog I'll tell you about the trip to Bolivia next time!
So Salta, North West Argentina. Known to the locals as Salta La Linda (Salta the Beautiful) but to be honest I can't see what the fuss is all about. Okay, it has some nice hills around the city but I failed to see the attraction beyond that. I suppose Mendoza was a tuff act to follow... yeah that must be it.
Regardless, it's not as if I didn't have a good time, decided to stay in a large International Hostel to make a change from th small friendly place in Mendoza. So it was Asado's and pizza both nights I was there, with a trip to a bar all of 10 meters down the road. That's the trouble with these places, they don't actually encourage you to stray too far unless it's on one of their excursions!
So I bought a bus ticket to San Pendro in Chile but as the buses only go twice a week I had a couple of days to kill and decided to take a day away from Salta, in a nice little village called Cafayate, 3 hours to the south. This was what I needed, a chance to be on my own for a day, so I rewarded myself with a plate brimming with Chivito, or baby goat to you... or kid if you prefer!
Bussed it back to Salta the following night and stayed at a place near the bus station, which was loads better than the International place. Somewhat bizarrely I was sharing a room with a couple of Aussie girls and a fireman from Somerset. As it was Saturday night the obligatory Asado was fired up and what can I say... by far the best Asado thus far on the trip, I even doubt if it will be bettered.
The only trouble with this Asado was the small matter of an 8 hour bus journey starting at 07.00 on Sunday morning. As it was already Sunday morning and the Asado was still in full swing, I made thge heroic decision to say to hell with sleep, switch to water and make the bus on time. Can always sleep on the bus right?!
Anyway, I made said bus and the journey to San Pedro (minus sleep). I'll tell you about that next time, much more interesting than Salta!
