As I was on the cusp of Patagonia once more, I decided it would be rude not to cross to the Andean steppe and take in one last view of the glorious Andes and the stunning Argentine Lake Dsitrict. So a little out of season but with a magnitude of reason I headed to Bariloche for 'one more'.
Julia was staying at the Pudu, which is named after a type of Patagonian minature deer. Turned out to be a nice spot with fantastic views over Largo Huapi - see picture above! The weather was indeed quite miserable as we were in the spring time, whilst last time I was here it was the summer time.
Still, weather good or not you don't need a sultry evening to enjoy an Asado or two, so that's exactly what we did. Plenty of nice people to meet, and the bar sold some lovely pale that was brewed by a family just around the corner...lovely!
I stayed for five nights mas o menos and during a break in the weather managed to get to the top of Cerro Otto, which is regularly rated as one of the top ten views in the world. We finished off with Patagonian lamb in a restaurant known locally as the Hobitt House, though it's actually called something else that I can't recall!
It was enevitable... one more hook up with Kev and Claire! This time they were further up country in the City of Mendoza - one of my favourites. We arranged to meet at Hostel Parque Central... also one of my favourites! We met as we were all on our way to the local supermarket for some lunch supplies.
Over lunch they told me about their trip into The Andes. The places they had visited were on my recommendation....oops. Looks like that bizarre yet characterful disused railway station/ hostel that I had recommended had now been taken over by a bunch of drunken, farting builders who were busy ripping the place to part, and one had a habit of rubbing Claire's toes as she slept - well it was good when I was there last - sorry guys!
That night was party night at the hostel with the Mendoza gang. Was good to catch up eith them all once more. The following evening was goodbye Kev and Claire time, so were out for a lovely meal and some drinks on the cool Mendoza Saturday night scene. This was definitely goodbye, the following day those two were off to Santiago and their onward flight to New Zealand whilst I was off back to Buenos Aires - again!
