Hello,
Since our last entry we've left Oaxaca and have been to Merida and Chichen Itza. Now we're in Tulum.
Bus from Oaxaca to Merida took about 3 weeks, and they always insist on showing crappy films. Had to change buses in Villahermosa, we arrived there about 1.5 hours late but it didn't matter because the bus we needed to get was also about 1.5 hours late. Nick smells of wee.
Merida is very touristy, everyone there is trying to sell you some kind of tat. We bought some. It's not really tat, it's a hat for Nick and a lovely hammock (see photos).
After a couple of days in Merida we left for Tulum, stopping off at Chichen Itza for a few hours. As you might have heard, Chichen Itza is one of the new 7 wonders of the world. The other 6 are: how can they justify more than doubling the entrance fee, why is the tourist tat there still only 1 dollar, why are there so many American tour groups, how long will it be before the whole site collapses under the weight of these American tourists, why can't I climb the big pyramid & what makes Chichen Itza so much better than Stonehenge?
Got to Tulum & found the hostel didn't have our resevation and the people in front of us got the last private room, so we had to stay in a dorm. Not sure it was mixed-sex as Nick was the only male in there. managed to get a room for tonight, and we didn't get all our stuff stolen overnight.
We've got another couple of nights in Tulum before we move on to Belize city - just long enough to check out the beach & go back to the bar with 2 for 1 cocktails. Nice.
Better go now, we've been hogging the "computer" for hours.
Bye,
Us.
PS. congrats to Nicky Biscuit & the future Mrs Gary Baldi.
