Ahoy hoy,
Not long to write this one, time runs out in 14 minutes.
We're now in Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast of Colombia having spent six days in Cartagena (just a few longer than planned).
The flight was a hell of a lot less painful than those in Europe - very little hassle from security and just a gentle search from Customs in Colombia. The airport in Panama did, however, have nowhere to buy food on the airside except for an overpriced hot dog stall where the seller proclaimed his the "best hot dogs in Panama". They tasted a bit dodgy. We got free "pretzel pieces" on the flight, they were a bit odd.
Arriving in Cartagena we could see it was going to be one of the nicest places we'd stayed in. Over the next few days we got in plenty (we struggle to remember the order, it was all a bit of a haze). We went shopping for our most interesting souvenir so far, went to a lickle museum of modern art with rubbish collages and "ironic" paintings of a cardboard box. There was some better stuff in the shop next door that we nearly bought, but we couldn't think of how we'd carry round a giant metal lizard for the next six months. We spent a while bathing in a mud volcano - a very odd experience - and were then scrubbed down in a dirty lake by some locals who removed our swimming costumes (for cleaning, or so they claimed).
We went on an overpriced boat trip to the Islas del Rosario including a trip to an aquarium and about half an hour on a lovely beach. People would start massaging you, offering it as a "gift" before trying to charge you for it. A lot. Back in town, we had a wander from the centre up the posh expensive strip of beaches where all the all inclusive resorts are. Lots of wristbands.
More stuff happened, but not much time to tell. Next, Santa Marta. Today, Taganga (fishing village) and a few hours on the nearby beach. Lovely. Tomorrow, Parque Nacional Tayrona and more beaching.
We're off now, bye.
Love, us.
