Were up mega early today, 4am. The plan had been to get an early night but no such luck. Neither of us could sleep, when the alarm went at 4 we pulled on some clothes and made a run for the toilet block before grabbing our stuff and jumping into our ultra cool hire car and driving out to Uluru.
We were one of the first in the queue of cars at the gate of the National Park. Was weird driving throught the desert in complete darkness. The sunrise spot is right round the other side of the rock. We parked up and walked to the lookout area, perfect spot. You could see the sky changing colours around Uluru and had views of the Olgas in the distance too. As the sun rose the clouds begun to glow pink. It was so beautiful watching the sun rise with the sky changing colours constantly. When the sun hit Uluru it glowed a really deep red. Once the sun was higher into the sky and it was lighter you could hear the birds begin to sing and once the sun had fully risen we saw the first bird of the day.
As we had done all the walks we drove back round the rock to the sunset viewing area. On the way round we saw steam rising off Uluru. It had rained heavily all of lastnight so with the sun now up all of the water was evaporating. It was an amazing site and a rare one too. Something positive from all the rain!!
We sat in the car at the sunset viewing area watching the desert awaken. Was nice to just sit and enjoy the site.
On our way back to our cabin we stopped to get some photos of Kata Tjuta, it is quite a way from Uluru and with limited milage on our hire car we decided not to go all the way there.
When we got back to the cabin we decided to go to bed, with hardly any sleep last night becasue of the noisy storm we were both shattered. When we woke up, we had some spaghetti on toast before refueling and returning our hire car.
On the walk back we walked up the sand dunes to a lookout post, you coud see for miles, Uluru one way and the Olgas the other. We had a wonder around the visitors and shopping centre before coming back to the campground to sort our transfer back to the airport tomorrow.
We then played numerous games of cards. We walked back to the lookout post for sunset, it was so beautiful, amazing views of the Olgas as the sun was setting right next to them. We stayed up there and watched an electric storm light up the sky, it was amazing to see so muh lightning so close together. We stayed there till dark to see the stars. We then realised we'd forgotton our torch to get back was interesting and very slow but got there in the end!
