Very weird day today as we cross the time zone so basically live the 6th February twice!!
Part 1 - Auckland to fiji: We checked out and got the air bus to Auckland International Airport. Sad leaving NZ as we've had such a great time and met so many people here but I guess it is time for the next adventure chapter of our trip! Our flight to Hawaii stops in fiji - well it is actually 2 seperate flights - so we checked into the Auckland to Nadi flight before killing time window shopping. the flight was with Air pacific and we were happy as seats and lef room was huge!! When flying over Auckland on take off we got great views of all the small islands off the top of NZ (the Bay of Islands).
Part 2 - Nadi Stopover: After a 3 hour flight we landed into Nadi, on our decent we could see all the mud roads amongst the lush green land. As we walked from the plane to the terminal the heat was so extreme! We were greeted in the terminal by a band singing and playing ukuleles (sorry if that's spelt wrong!) they were all wearing Hawaiian shirts and flower necklaces, so cool, and beautiful music too! they continued to play as we went through immigration, which we also had to do even though we weren't staying!! We collected our bags and then walked to the other terminal building to check in for our next flight, Nadi through to honolulu. Next came the 4 hour wait for the flight!!
Part 3 - Nadi to Honolulu: Not only did we get exit row seats, we also had 3 seats between the 2 of us! They gave us dinner and then put on a film, one we watched on our last flight from Auckland to Nadi, typical - so I read whilst Nick listened to his I-pod. It was hard to sleep but we knew we needed to so did try to get a nap but only nodded off now and then throughout the 6 and a half hour flight. When flying into Honolulu we crossed over the time line, having to put our watches BACK 22 hours!! Crazy huh! we were now at 6am on the 6th feb!! re-living the same day again. Once we collected our bags we got a shuttle bus to Waikiki.
Part 4 - In Hawaii: When we got to our hostel, Waikiki Beachside hostel, it was way to early to check in so we left our bags in the store and went for a walk. Whilst we were checking out Waikiki beach the sun was just beginning to rise - it was beautiful watching it appear from behind the hills and palm trees. When we were able to check in our idilic morning came to a grinding hault as our room was absolutely disgusting (and we have seen some bad rooms so it's not like we are just being snobby!!). It was flithy and such a hole and we had paid a small fortune for it!! We decided to complain and ask to move as it simply wasn't livable, they showed us another semi private room which was alot nicer but the toilet didn't work!! We begun to realise that the entire place was a dump so asked to be moved into a dorm as at least then we're paying as little as possible to be staying here! we'd been looking forward to our private room after all of NZ in dorms so a bit dissapointed, espcially as we were so tired etc. And the place had such great reviews so we were pretty shocked!! Once in our dorm (no better but much cheaper) we got changed and got the bus to the bade of Diamond Head crater. We walked up the hill and into the crater but didn't walk up it as it is a really tough hike and it was so so hot and we were both tired. But we did get some great views just walking up and into the crater itself so it was still worth it. We went to a supermarket and after some chill time we went for a walk to keep us awake and get us onto Hawaii time. We sat on Waikiki beach and watched the sunset, all the surfers as silloettes. We continued to walk around Waikiki which was mainly lit by flame torches! We saw a band and hula girls performing which was cool. I think we've made it, it's 10pm but we can't hold off any longer and are now off to bed - I think we have done pretty well with living out the 6th of feb twice in a row with only a nap on an uncomfy plane!!
