It is now that we are finally experiencing spring.... Out of 2 season country (dry or wet) and back into 4 seasons and into the best of them all! As we sailed across the tropic of Capricorn saw a change in landscape and I must say the change was so refreshing and in a lot of ways familiar... As much as I love the outback as it holds a very special place in my heart it is so beautiful to see paddocks of healthy crops and the scenery just changed so quickly... As we headed south towards geraldton we came into a beautiful little town called Northhampton... It is just off the coast but the farming land is to die for.. We didn't actually stop there but it had such a good vibe about it! It was about 60km north of geraldton and from there was an abundance of blooming wild flowers, which I'm told only get more spectacular the further into spring we go so I will be sure to take some pics as we start our journey back across from Perth! Driving into geraldton were beautiful views of the ocean and it still has that aqua colour as it has the whole way down the west coast! We found our caravan park and got a perfect spot right next to the dump point... For those who are unfamiliar with dump points they are places where every morning caravaners (grey nomads) line up to empty their toilets into a pipe that goes somewhere under the ground.... So our spot was certainly not ideal. It also had a cement slab half on the site which suits caravans but for us with a camper that should be pegged down especially in the windy conditions as we were faced with it made things a little difficult ... But with some paracord and stabilizers we made do, the smell of the dump point however was out of our control... Although I really don't understand why people would rather use their caravan s***ter that they have to put chemicals and clean out daily rather than using the caravan park toilets!! Anyway maybe one day when I'm old and grey I'll understand it but for now.... Yuk!
So geraldton... Not a bad place... Coastal town with swimmable beaches but had a really mixed vibe... There were a lot of businesses on the main st that were closed down and basically left to rot away then others that were quite upperclass and full of life. Overall it has a lot of potential and I'd say in 10yrs time will be quite the ritzy place to be... Clint says it reminded him of Townsville when they were just doing it up... We stayed for 3 nights and had dinner out 2 of the nights and one night bought some fresh pink snapper which was Devine!!!! We also went to the circus which happened to be in town and paddy really enjoyed that!! We went for a scoot/skate along the foreshore, checked out the HMAS sydney II memorial and basically just holidayed as we do!
Today we are heading south to Perth for the night and then onto Bunbury to catch up with a blast from the past, an old rodeo/B&S mate cumbo... While down that way we will take one for the team and visit some Margaret River wineries. We might get as south as Augusta but only time will tell. We are now halfway through our trip and have planned a 5 night stay in Perth from the 23rd and I must say I'm looking forward to a break from the camping scene!
But that's where we are at for now... Happy spring !!!
