Heading south to Perth and we have 1 month to do so... well until we have to start heading back across.... We left Broome for the 2nd time a couple of days ago and headed to barnhill station a brahman cattle property on the beach.... Beautiful little camping spot with showers under the stars... Beach wasnt swimable but was a nice walk and watching the sunset on the water is still a treat. The following day we were at 80 mile beach... as we drove over the hill into the caravan park a blaze of aqua water shone which was an awesome backdrop to the red track we had just travelled on. we found our site and set up next to fellow lifestyle campers and discussed the finer point of our trailers and the difficulties with the zipper etc....The office had an extensive shop and we chose our favorite flavour of ice crean and sat out in the shade and enjoyed the serenity. It was a nice but different caravan park... quite big and almost every long stayer had a quad as the beach (80mile) is one to drive on and a very popular fishing spot. The fisho's had their quads set up to have the most out there fishing attire and equipment and some even had camping gear in tow. The beach was one of the whitest beaches that i have seen.... it was a funny contrast to the colour of our feet when we walked down to check it out... remembering we have been on the raod for a month and 1 week in thongs... you could only imagine the colour.... kind of like a fake tan gone wrong.... hence whay i steer clear of the fake tanning as it always looks WRONG!
The beach probably wasn't white becasue of the sand more because of the shells.... it was just amazing how many white shells were washed up on the beach after high tide... you couldn't walk bare foot on this beach it was shoes only... those shells are pretty painful.
We exchanged numbers with the campers next to us and did a little more discussing on how the camper packs up etc and we were on the road again... we were heading to port hedland to meet up with a mate Mick Williams who works in the BHP iron Ore mine there... we headed straight for the information centre and was greeted by a not so welcoming rather large lady behind the desk who was nothing but Rude.... holding my tongue i walked out with my little map and found our way to the caravan park. on the way with timing that only paddy could have he needed to go to the toilet... so we found a BP station and I rushed in with him as he was busting and was again met by one of Hedlands finest a 40yr old bloke who said what do you want... i politely asked for the key to the toilet and he bluntly said NOPE... I was like right.. so my kid is busting he said well which ever way you are heading you will find one.... Stuff that ...so out the front of his station we dropped paddy's dacks and he pidled right there... we put paddy in his seat and gave the bloke a friendly wave as we drove off. we found the caravan park that was overloaded but they managed to fit us in. we got our spot and headed for the grubby shopping centre for lunch.
All day i was serching fr somewhere to catch up with Mick for dinner.... no pubs no restaurants... except one down on the esplanade (don't be thinking it was a nice esplanade either). The food was awesome an international buffet... it was the best thing Hedland could offer...
today we were in such a hurry to get out of the joint we thought Macca's was on the cards for breaky ... and who would believe .... the bloody place was closed for the morning... I seriously think that in all the places we had travelled through Port Hedland has been the worst! any wonder why people fly in fly out for work!
so we drove to Karratha for breaky (2.5hrs later) and on the way paddy had eaten 2 pieces of fruit tiny teddys and a packet of chips... Karratha was surprisingly a really nice place... had a great feel about it and shat all over Hedland!
Dampier followed where we saw the red dog statue (pics to follow).
We are now back on the road and will stop at a freebie tonight and tomorrow head on our next adventure to Nigaloo reef (sounds stuffing Huh)
until next post...
