Airlie Beach is a really cool place that seems to be moulded for backpackers. We loved it. We did not get to spend to long there though as like most backpackers we were just using it as a gateway to the Whitsundays.
The morning of the 3 day trip we went shopping for a sack of wine (4 ltrs, the love their boxed wine here). Then headed to the barge to find our boat. We decided to go for the Powerplay which is a high speed boat (no sails, we had enough of sailing boats after being thrown around in cancun and cairns) and it had a jacuzzi on board its worth $1 million!
The people we were on with were very cool people, just laid back and wanting a relaxing time. And we certainly relaxed! We got feed like queens eating massive meals and snacks every 5 minutes
Our first stop was Hayman Island were we did lots of snorkelling in the great barrier reef (having to wear stunning stinger suits as its stinger season) then achored and stayed the night, was absolutely a high light of the trip sitting in the Jacuzzi sipping wine under the stars and moonlight. I am making you sick now.
The next day we sunbathed as we sailed down to White Heaven beach. This is somewhere everyone raves about, as it’s the second most beautiful beach in the world and it really is something else. The sand is made from silica and therefore does not get hot and is like caster sugar. It also forms these massive swirls which is a hell of a view from the lookout point. You can see sting rays just swimming around its so clear. We spent a couple of hours chilling there and one of the crew Mel (she was crazy) took thousands of posey pics of us all (not made it onto the website, already been sent home – were too organised for our own good).
Next we headed back up to Blue Pearl bay where we anchored again and looked at all the pics on a big slide show. Saw an amazing sunset then we just chilled.
On the last day we snorkelled again at 7.30am! that’s one way to start the day! We saw massive fish (and I mean MASSIVE), clams, parrot fish, turtles and a hell of a lot of yellow tail. It is very beautiful down there. I have never seen to many colours in my life. We also found ourselves on a tiny sand island in the middle of the sea. Looked like we were walking on water. Then sadly we sailed back! Was a great trip, thanks Nead for the suggestion!
That night we all met for drinks and we had snakebite! Classy! We went out with Rachael, a crazy American girl we met on the boat and had a hell of a night, dancing like mad women. The country band thought we were crazy, esp when Katy asked them to play some pussycat dolls! A great end to a great trip – next of Fraser Island.
