Happy new year to everyone!!! Hope you all had a great Christmas too.
The East Coast was amazing but we were ready to settle for a few weeks in one place so were glad to arrive in Sydney where we could establish ourselves and chill out for Christmas.
We got there to Sydney on the 21st Dec and after a trip across the harbor bridge and a few view points we dumped our stuff then headed to Chinatown to take in some of the city but mainly cause I was hungry! and yes Katy does love Chinese now!! We met up with Nat (my good friend from uni) and her best mate Nic. Was quite odd seeing her in Sydney but was lovely to catch up with someone from home (as if Sonia killed Pauline!) and chill out with company we knew. We did a LOT of chilling out in Sydney! We shopped a lot (Supre is super), ate a lot (I have a major McBelly issue going on) and drank A LOT!!!!
Christmas eve we met up with the girls and Eb (from uni), Julie (a friend of Katys from back home) and some other random friends weve met on our tarvels and we all went out to celebrate Christmas. We started off in an Irish bar here i learnt how to drink Jager bombs, me and Nic tried to see how many chins we had and some guy who was looking for his front teeth wanted to beat me up when I started singing ‘all I want for xmas is my two front teeth.’ We then headed to a club that smelt like sick; we soon left there and had our own little party in the street encouraging buskers to carol sing for us then these kiwi dudes started teaching us how to beat box outside the kebab shop. I also decided to loose $50 under the kebab shop fridge and no one would believe me, they thought I had drunken made it up! I tried getting the whole shop lifting up this coffin fridge (except the owner who was shouting at me) but in the end only the tramp would believe me and he lifted this massive thing on his own so I bought him dinner(how romantic) - I was so happy the whole shop was cheering for me! I am too poor to loose $50! After all those shenanigans we were finally distracted from the hot kiwis by a near by waterfall which Katy decided she wanted to get into (great pic if you wanna look). After walking Julie home we finally got home at 6am! Merry xmas!
Xmas morning me and Katy had bought each other little stockings with girly pressies and loads chocolate! We then donned our Santa hats and headed to Bondi beach where we met with all the girls. Nic is a bit of a trouble magnet and in the space of an hour managed to get a bird to s*** on her then another bird dropped some random chicken fat (and later on in the trip a flip flop fell then a bolt). After some exhausting sunbaking (I much prefer cooking myself than turkey on xmas day that’s for sure), mince pies and turkey sarnies we headed to a gatecrashers party just on the pavilion on Bondi. We pulled out some funky moves to some dodgy rave music then when when we were bored we decided to get the policeman to try and arrest us but they were not impressed so we ended up ringing home rather drunk instead to wish everyone merry xmas. I have to say, after all that drinking I had the best xmas dinner ever – mc donalds! By 5am we were pretty exhausted and headed home.
Boxing day was mainly spent in bed! We did go out again to an Irish football bar which I was a little unimpressed with so after catching up with another random Wycombe person it was bed time.
After all that drinking we decided we should perhaps do some touristy things so we got up early(ish) and headed to the Sydney opera house (I loved it, did you know its made of tiles?), circular quay, the rocks and the botanical gardens. We were up for a chill night so cinema it was (quite the treat these days, saw the ‘holiday’ I loved it) then a massive pizzahut buffet! (oh dear buffets and me are dangerous).
Thur 28th we decided to get the ferry over to Mainly to see the famous beach there. Was a nice day just sunbathing and watching the surfers and we went to the best chocolate café! Everything was made from chocolate! The sunset on the ferry on the way back was beautiful – took about 100 pictures of it coming down behind the opera house. After all that relaxing we felt ready for another night out so we went to the ‘gaff’ and danced the night away (what a granny thing to say!). This was a bit of a crazy night that ended with a 7am stroll down Darling harbor. Poor katy was exhausted but I insisted (Jen and redbull is also dangerous). By 8am we were in bed. Needless to say we had quite the lay in and wasted most of the 29th in bed! Sat 30th we intended to go to the rocks to look at the cool market they have there but got there to late so we headed to a café by the opera house for lunch instead.
New years eve was wicked. We were determined to get a good spot to watch the fireworks so headed down to the botanical gardens at 12pm to join the longest que I have ever seen in my life. Luckily there was a few of us so we entertained ourselves with who am I games and cards. The day went so quickly sitting there with everyone by the opera house, having our picnic and a few beers. There was a great atmosphere there and when the fireworks started at midnight we climbed rather cheekily over a fence onto some rocks and had the most perfect incredible view. The fireworks were coming from every building, boat and tourist attraction I didn’t know where to look. With Katy by my side it’s a special moment I won’t forget.
New years day we rested but at 10pm we headed to the Sydney Harbor bridge to do our 3 hour bridge climb. Somehow I ended up at the front of the group and I really was quite scared as you are incredibly high up there, attached by a bloody thin looking wire and it happened to be pitch black – oh and it stared tithing it down! When I say it rained it RAINED! Our tour guide who had been working there for 18months said it’s the worse conditions he had ever climbed in. I decided to distract myself by singing the neighbours and home and away theme tunes but finally getting up the top it was all worth it. An incredible experience and view and I got to see Nicole Kidmans penthouse all the way up there!!
Jan 2nd we made the nicest xmas dinner! first roast in 7 months!!! was so yum even if it did take 5 hours to make!! After scoffing we decided we were due another night out so headed to the ‘world bar’ and met some very interesting people! A 40 year old lawyer seemed to take a shine to me (see I still got it) and a dentist was after Katy! We had a great night, dancing to cheesy tunes setting sambuca alight in our mouths (ouch in morning) and nearly knocking a cassette wall down when I decided I wanted Madonna’s album off it (what am I supposed to do with a cassette??). Another late one that night with me making phonecalls till 7am in the morning! I’m not a total drunk! Its just the best time to ring cause were 11 hours ahead!!!
Ok I am a total drunk as on the 3rd we went out again, this time to ‘Empire’ with out fancy new tour tops we got each other. I had the very nice nickname of ‘vain thick frigid troll foot’ to wear on my back all night! We had a great night, esp when we decided to have dance offs with anyone who would dare to participate.
4th was our last day in Sydney so we thought we should do something constructive to got the train to the Blue Mountains to see the famous three sisters. They are quite famous because the eucalyptus tree oils reflect on the sun making everything look blue. It was a nice day and we walked a lot (at one stage to a non-viewable waterfall!) and when we got home we made a big farewell dinner with the girls – was quite sad as we had an absolute blast with Nic and Nat (and Em, Nicky, Eb, Seth, Jade and Nick) – they really are legends and Sydney is for sure a highlight of the whole trip for me. Nic and Nat - you smell like poo and wee and your hair makes you look like Nigel from eastenders but your both very incredible people who made us laugh a lot! Thanks girls! Hopefully see you in Bali! But for now, me and Kate are off to New Zealand.
