After our brief little stop in Hollywood and clocking up some major miles in the air we finally arrived in Cairns. Its a little party town really, and we spent the days at the lagoon on the beach topping up our tans and the evening drinking to much beer which one night resulted in my doing front flips in the pool. Ozzie beer is dangerous!! We did however manage to get some energy to go scuba diving for the day in the great barrier reef. We headed early to the boat 'ocean free' and met our crew (boat crews are always far to energetic) and off we went, sailing the reef, snorkling and finally going 10 meters down to the bottom of the reef. It was beautiful and we saw nemo amougst millions of other reef, coral and fish (including reef sharks!). Was a little scared as i tried once in Fiji to dive and was crap, but the insructor held my hand so it was all good! After diving we sailed to 'Green Island' which is one of those tiny secluded beaches (gave me a chance to dance and solo karaoke to me ipod), it was beautiful. The ride back was crazy as the sea got rough and at one point me and Katy were thrown half way across the boat - got lots of lovely bruises!
On Nov 20th we headed down to Mission Beach, stopping off loads on the way. We watched some people bungy jump (er no thanks, sky diving enough). We stopped at Millia falls and then to an incredible crocodile farm. We saw emus and kangroos strolling around and got to pet them but the best bit was feeding time for the crocs!! this farm is in the middle of no where but has 1400 crocs and they get hungry! esp the big ones! it was incrdible we were so close and to see them in action soon woke me up. After feeding time we got to hold some baby crocs (feels like a chickhen fillet) and some snakes! i was quite scared of the snakes as your see in the pics! I was quite embrassed too when the dude working there saw how scared i am so pulled me up on a table with another scared dude and made me pull one (a snake i mean) out of this poor guys shorts, was rather embrassing!! Me and Kate also decided to taste some croc (a dead one!), it kind of tastes like pork! After a walk in the rainforest (where we saw wild snakes!) we arrived in Mission Beach.
Mission beach was OK. There was not that much to do there (we even jogged one day we were that bored) but we stayed for 5 days so we could do our jump on the beach. When we woke up it was raining and i thought i migth be able to get out of it but the sun came out after breakfast! I was very quiet that morning was a little worried about dying! but once we got busy with filling out forms and practising our falling positions i soon got distracted. We made our way to the tiny excuse of a plane and all crammed in (max 10 people!). The flight up there was fine, i am not scared of flying and it was quite calming for me. I did get a little freaked out though, when at 14'000 feet they opened the door of the plane and the camera guy clang on the the side! The first guy thumped out and just disapeared then before i knew it i was hanging on the side of the plane with my feet dangling out thinking 's***' - suddenly i got quite scared and let out an almighty scream which i think they may have heard down on the beach! It was amazing though, my guy threw up out of the plane and we just fell like rag dolls and it was just so noisy!! and cold! and when we fell through the clouds i got soaking yet. After the manic freefall the parachute slowed things right down and we just floated down like feathers looking at the reef, rainforest, islands and beach under us until we landed on the beach (very smoothly). Was so cool. Not bad for someone scared of diving boards!
On the 25th Nov we left Mission beach and headed to Magnectic island. We stayed at Base which is so lovely, its on the beach and has a great atmosphere. We did some kayaking in jellyfish and shark invested waters then just chilled out. The next day we decided to rent one of these stupid little barbie car things they have on the island and just drove around all day. The best stop was at a Koala farm where we both got to hold a very smelly koala named Barney. We also did a bush walk and some some in the wild including a mum with a little baby one in its pouch! and some scary bats! We also went to Radical point which was you will see from the pics was stunning.
So now we are at Airlie Beach! Just got back from a sailing trip from the Whitsundays, was incredible, will tell all soon........x
