.................... and then there was Starbucks!
Ahh Lima! Arrived here late night and checked into a gorgeous hotel right on the main square. Tired and exhausted from two physically gruelling days, we headed to McDonalds (we know, sorry, but we needed it) and then had an early night.
First day in Lima we had a city tour then headed to Miraflores, a nearby town to Lima famous for its shopping malls. First stop for us and a few friends was Starbucks where Anita quickly made friends with the guy behind the till ensuring her discount still worked despite being at the other side of the world! All five of us sat in Starbucks as if we had been out of England three years not three weeks! (it was very much a peter kay caburys fingeress moment)
After coming down from our caffeine or hot chocolate high we headed to the shops where we all left with some fine Peruvian fashion.
Since arriving in Lima we have discovered that everyone likes to beep their horns constantly, for no reason what so ever, strabge and certainly not something we will be attempting to introduce to the UK!
Tonight we visited KFC, thats right, you got it in one, we are doing a tour of the fast food chains in Lima. (well we figure its either that or chicken and chips from a dodgy street vendor)
Next day we headed to see the changing of the guard at the presidents palace. The queen should visit and take notes, this was fantastic, there was a whole performance laid on and it happens every day, a marching band, the presidents army marching in time to the music. Anita was in here element and made a mental note to visit Buckingham palace and see thew changing of her own country's guard. That afternoon, we got an open top red bus around colonial Lima, taking in all the historic sights.
That night we visited a nearby hotel which has in the past had guests such as Ernest Hemingway and had a few cocktails before moving on to Miraflores for the nicest meal to date, we were bought roses, even Dave who was sat with four girls!
In summary we loved Lima, it was so nice to be back in an internatinal city, home from home for the half way point of our trip!
