We managed to get a last minute deal on car hire, which was really good as I didn't fancy carrying all of our stuff on buses! i've decided I'm not the typical traveller and there's not much point pretending!
We drove through Corong National Park and Mount Gambier before we actually got to the Great Ocean Road. This area is very pretty, there are loads of Salt Plains which look very pink in the sun. I was impressed with that! There is a large sand dune peninsul which runs a long next to the coast, and there is a lot of bird like that lives here. It was very peaceful here, we could have chilled here for ages but then some ants kept eating our feet so decided to leave!
Port Campbell is roughly where the Great Ocean Road begins and runs a long the coast to Torquay. It is a picturesque coastline with all the rocks and cliffs, but it is also known as shipwreck coast because there were over 80 shipwrecks in the late 1800s. we stopped so many times for scenic lookouts that it took use 3 days to drive this short distance! the best parts were the Bay of Islands, 12 Apostles (which are now 11 because 1 collapsed!),Lorh Ard Gorge and Ottway Fly. However, I didn't find the Ottway Fly particularly enjoyable! It is a big suspended walkway in the canopy of the rainforest and it moves! We were 50m up at the highest point and some annoying people decided to rock it. I was not impressed! I was very relived at the end when we were walking back a long the ground!
The drive between Apollo's Bay and Anglesea was the most beautiful as were right on thecoast - so many picture opportunities but we couldn't stop! Lorne was a really nice town, think it would be a good place to stay for a week. We had the best barramundi and chips around a campfire here, followed by marshmallows. This reminded us of camping in Devon (with adam and Kate)and at The Gower last year with chela, Jess, Matt and Alex! But we were missing the choc to go with it!
