We've met up with Neil's parents again (they've flown back down from Cairns). We're staying in an apartment with them in Caloundra which is just North of Brisbane.
We have been to the Australia Zoo, which was owned by Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter!). This is a really good zoo, loads of animals well looked after. We saw a show with crocs, snakes and other things, this was really informative and told us what to do (or not to do!) if we came across them in the wild!
We then visited the Glass House mountains which are volcanic crags created 20 million years ago. they are very unusual because they rise up out of the coastal plain which is very flat. We didn't climb to the top as it was incredibly steep so did the walk around the base instead!
We have also been to Noosa Heads National Park which is a beautiful coastal area with lots of walks to do all around the heads. There is yet more golden sand and blue sea! They have massive waves there with loads of surfers waiting for them. We haven't had a go at that yet, but possibly will! Although I think I'll spend more time falling off the board than standing up!
We have spent a day in Brisbane it was really nice but rained all day! We got soaked but decided to keep sight seeing! We did a walking tour all around the central district, lots of shops and historical buildings to see. Then we went to the Southbank, which has been newly done up. However, we wanted to see the manmade beach there but it was covered up with plastic and the "sea" had been drained! It wasn't really beach weather though! The boat tour took us all the way along the river to the mouth, this was really interesting and definitely worth doing. We managed to negotiate a free sandwich too, as there were only 7 people on the tour and 4 of them were us!!!
The next day we went to the Blackall range which is a mountain range just inland. We went up to Howell's k*** where we can get a 360 degree view of the Sunshine Coast and then we pottered around local towns and tried to go on two waterfall walks (one was shut and the other walk just took us to the top).
We're moving on to up the coast tomorrow to Rainbow Beach and then Fraiser Island.
Keep in touch.
