Namaste!
Now in Nepal, and have been for the past couple of weeks, so it's probably about time for a blog entry.
Thankfully my flight from Bangkok to Kathmandu was much less traumatic than my flight into Thailand, no lost bags or delays or anything, and I actually had room for my elbows AND knees in my seat, along with decent in-flight entertainment, which was a novelty. However, Delhi airport, where I had a layover, was a bit of a nightmare, transit passengers going through there have to fill in all the immigration forms to say that you havent got SARs and aren't a terrorist, and you have to be supervised by a member of staff from your airline the whole time, it's wierd.
Once I'd got to Kathmandu I spent a few days there getting my bearings and stuff, before moving onto Pokhara. I was hoping to do some trekking while I was here but all the guides are saying that the rains are much worse than usual and it's not worth it, normally at this time of year you get a few clear days each week, but I haven't had any since being here, so I've had to content myself with a few day-hikes and a 2 day rafting expedition, which was ace. I also spent a day horse-riding, where I was part of an 'advanced' group, which, as far as we could tell, meant that we were allowed to walk along without a lead rope (exciting)
This weekend I went to Lumbini, which is really beautiful, it's the historic birthplace of Buddha, and right next to the border with india. I had a great time, though on the bus ride back I ended up stuck next to a guy who listened to crazy frog on repeat for 3 straight hours, and then when I changed buses in Mugling I was sat on the floor next to a goat which thought my book looked delicious, much to the amusement of all the locals.
See you all soon!
