- The BUS
The transportation system is called "THE BUS" I have to ride the bus to town for my internship. I am in Laie and my internships are in Honolulu. Honolulu is about 45 miles from here. It honestly not that far, it is just beyond the mountains. But the speed limit here is like 35mi, the roads are curvy, so that takes even longer and since it is a bus and you have to keep making stops for people to get off and on, it takes even longer. So I usually travel 4hrs, 2hrs each way. A lot of people use it, but I am noticing it is usually old people, mostly Asian, some people going into town for work, there are few young people, and they are usually going to malls or the beach, very few white people, and even less black people, it is usually just me and maybe like 2-3 people for the whole 4hrs that I am in the bus. A lot of people drive, there are really nice cars—tons of Benz and Cadillac, but they are all small cars, mostly 4 doors. I have not seen a lot of trucks. It makes sense though; gas prices here are like $4.39!!! I am just soooo happy that my car is parked!!
The people I meet on The Bus:
1.I hate it when people tell everyone their life story, especially strangers. Like this one girl who is over-talkative (paul matly called it OTD-obsessive talking disorder) and the worst is when you can't help but have to listen. It's not like the person is whispering, they are talking out loud, making eye contact… and the worst for me is when you are sitting across from them and you can't look up, because they are directly in front of you. I was reading "the audacity of hope" which I finally finished, and I couldn't do anything but hear her stories. I was trying to think positive…think SEX!! LOL LOL
2.I have met a transvestite, I have never met one in before. I can't figure out his chest, it looks sort of inflated with a pillow. More on this when I figure it out.
There is was this father today with his 3 boys that just broke my heart. The little boys come in each yelling that they wanted to sit next to daddy. At some point (bus ride is like 1hr 30 min) the two little boys fell asleep with their dad. He had one little boy sitting on his left leg and sleeping on his shoulder while his head was resting on the little boy's head and another little boy was sitting in the chair on his right with his head on his father's leg (the third boy was playing game boy across from them). Once in a while he would wake up and tussle his little boy's hair (one on his right) I want the father of my children to be like that, to be affectionate towards our children, not cold and overbearing. The funny thing though, a lady next to this family, was taunting her little boy, who would not sit down!
ps: As much as I want to drive my car, gas prices are really scaring me!
