Neil's Round the World Trip!
I woke up this morning at 6am in the tent I shared with Kirk (an Essex boy) who has been fruit-picking for 4months and all his clothes have big splodges of banana sap on them. Anyway I should tell you who's in my group: the couple (Sarah & Alex), 3 German girls (Inga, Karti & Manuela) 2 Swedes (Tina & Karolina) me and Kirk( Essex).
I woke up early due to the heat with a bursting bladder (dingoes and complete darkness kinda make you hold it in until morning!) and watched the sun rise (got a great photo!) then packed up our tent and drove to the nearby camping station which had cold showers. I had a cold shower, got bitten by sand flies and then had breakfast which was runny eggs on toast (Yum I hear you say).
Alex then drove us to Indian Head which is the only rocky bit on the largest sand island in the world. We climbed up the hill and looked down into the surf to spot sharks but we couldn't see any. We then dodged all the lethal box jellyfish that had been washed up on the beach and set off for Eli Creek.
I then drove us to the wreck of the Maheno, a rusting ship on the beach which claimed the lives of 120 people. I continued to drive us on to Eli Creek which was a shallow river that you could swim/crawl along as it was really shallow. It was nice but not really what I expected. We had to stay there for 3 hours as the tide was in and so the beach "motorway" was shut. Sarah drove us to our next camping area in Poyugang. We set our tents up earlier and also ate earlier (beef casserole and rice) Then after the sand flies had gone to bed we played drinking games like "I have never" and a Swedish game called "Sumi Sumi" underneath an amazing number of stars so clear and bright!
We went to sleep at 11ish as we had an early rise at 6am again!!
