Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got up and sauntered down to breakfast where I had coffee and melba toast. I walked around the city and visited the Belgrano Park. I bought my bus ticket to Rosario and bought a new bag as the one I bought in Puerto Iguazu burst too. I also bought a mate gourd which is the cup the Argentinians drink their bitter tea-like stuff called Yerba mate.
I got on my bus and a 19yr old Rosarina started chatting to me. She was so friendly and asked me lots of questions in Spanish and some in English as she learned some at school. She looked a bit like Penelope Cruz and waited for me when I got off the bus at Rosario. She gave me two pecks on the cheek and wished me "buena suerte". She then walked off into the bustling terminal.
I bought a magnetic bus card and hopped on a micro into the city centre. I got off in the centre and went searching for my hostel. However I had trouble finding it and so had to use an internet cafe to get the exact number of the street. I found the hostel which has no sign and was welcomed inside by Lucas (the owner's son). I sat in my dorm and relaxed. I read the local paper "La Capital" and they had 20 pages (I kid you not) devoted entirely to the Argentina v Holland match. The people here are fanatical about football!
I phoned Mariana and agreed to meet her at 6pm. Before she arrived I spoke to one of my dorm mates who is a 40 year old from Melbourne. He looks just like Mick Jagger and has the same mannerisms. He talked very quickly and was quite funny. Mariana picked me up in her car and showed me the twon huge shopping malls in Rosario. We also drove past the bandera monument which was lit up. We went to a cool pub called Rockefellers and I had steak and chips with one of the local beers Isenbeck. We spoke mainly English as she speaks it really well. She lived in London for 8 months and learned English at school too. I spoke in Spanish when I could.
She dropped me off at 1am and I went to bed while my Italian dorm-mate tried to type his university essay (he's on exchange here from Sienna).
