Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got up not feeling great as my sore throat is really irritating. I had a coffee and breakfast with Mariana in Roots bar. We then drove around the city and stopped outside an office block on Urquiza street. This building was the birthplace of Ernesto "Che" Guevara. We drove on to Mariana's sisters apartment as her husband wanted to meet me. We had a chat and he told me to be careful in certain areas of Buenos Aires.
Mariana drove me to the bus terminal and gave me some chocolates which was too kind of her. She was a great guide to the city and so I'll send her some Irn-Bru and tablet as a thank you when I return home. I said goodbye to her and got on my bus. An older woman sat beside me started chatting to me and I spoke to her for nearly an hour. She said my Spanish was good which helped my confidence. We watched a cheesy rom-com called "Must like dogs" which sent me to sleep. I woke up just as we entered the suburbs of Buenos Aires.
I got off the bus and walked around the terminal lost but after asking a few people soon found the Subte (underground). I got on the wrong train but realised just before it left. I got on the correct one which stopped at San Juan near where my hostel is. I then walked along the cobbled streets of the beautiful San Telmo barrio and found the hostel. There are lots of antique shops, men walking dogs, artists and of course elegant, stylish porteños (people of Buenos Aires) walking around.
I checked in to my hostel and was shown my dorm. I'm on a top bunk of a bed which feels like it will collapse at any moment. I went to a nearby cafe and relaxed for a few hours then took my clothes to a laundry. When I returned I made myself some mate and sipped on it looking over my Spanish.
Before I went to sleep I met a Korean guy called Cliff who is sleeping below me. He has a cold and warned me he would be coughing all night...oh great!
