Neil's Round the World Trip!
I set my alarm for 8ish as I thought I would get up since I went to bed early. However suffering from the cold I slept through to 10ish. I sat and watched CNN in the lounge chomping on Danish pastries. I read the Lonely Planet Argentina book that was on the book exchange shelf and then made myself some mate. I sat next to the heater and looked over my Spanish notes.
Later I walked into the city and was stopped by someone asking for directions, I had to say "no soy Argentino". However I must look a bit less of a gringo now I'm in Buenos Aires..that's good. I walked around the city dodging the dog sh%t which is on most pavements. Today it's sunny but still cold! I walked up to Recoleta (the posh area) to find Evita's grave and also just to have coffee in one of the hip coffee joints.
I also walked to the beautiful teatro Colon and the nearby park which is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. I chilled out in an internet cafe for an hour and then got the subway to the San Telmo area. I wandered around the market and little boutique shops.
When I returned to the hostel I met a Scottish girl called Amira from Perth in the lounge. We sat and chatted for a while and then an American guy asked us if we wanted to have dinner with him and his friends. We chipped in 8 pesos for the cost of the meal and had a delicious stew and rice. Everyone at the table is learning Spanish and so they spoke solely in Spanish which alienated my new friend from the conversation. We also chatted to some American students from Yale before heading to bed.
