Today we were to be blessed with our sister, Margo, who has been serving for a long time in Oban with many years of pioneering under her belt. Her knowledge of the local climate was no doubt to be a real aid to us today. Jeff went down to the port to pick her up from the midmorning ferry, as Harry and I begun in our village, Salen (pronounced like salad but with a 'n'). Once again we met more foreigners than Mulhites (as they call themselves), most notably a lovely swiss lady who retired here four years ago. We were amazed that she would want to leave her native country, but as she pointed out in Mull she has the same beauty without all the people! Well she was from the German part! (dont mention the war, david!!) She seemed to have a good biblical knowledge and her husband and her have agreed to have Margo return to see them at a later date. One other achievement today was making the islands first ever do not call!! A hand written sign went up over night down the road saying, 'No Jehovah's Witnesses or similar' what ever similar means?
Before long it was that time again to refill our stomachs, Jeff had prepared us his sausage pasta finished off with heinz tomato and basil soup! It set us up for an afternoon of driving around the North West of the island, meeting up with a nice lady brought up in Kenya who showed clear collonial routes in her character, she had left it all behind though to operate a lovely B&B right out in the country, with a lovely border collie called fynn.
Before long it was time to take Margo back for the 5pm ferry, which once again appeard to be packed to the brim, Cal Mac are certainly raking in the trade. Dinner tonight is Jeff's chilli con carne, mmm...three dramatic m's!
