We awoke to another Atlantic storm threatening the sturdiness of our hostel, this combined with the fact that we have to be in Leeds tomorrow afternoon meant that we had to make an earlier than expected departure from Iona, which in fairness was no big hardship, the island really not being anything to write home about, excuse the misnomer!
This time we decided we needed a taxi, so it was left to me to brave the storm to go out, find reception, which just happens to be at the top of the highest, most unprotected part of the island, and book our pickup. My hair has still not repaired itself! Harry, along with bike and tent, was making his way back to Craignure to set up camp for the night to enable him to catch his midday train back home tomorrow. So it was time to say our last goodbyes. It was a sad moment, it has been a really fantastic experience for us all, and very enjoyable, dare I use that word!
So on our way, Jeff and I were trying to get as far back as possible to break the journey to leeds, with at present no accommodation organised for the evening. The 40 mile from iona to fishnish to get back to Scotland is well over an hour and a half in length, so it was well into the afternoon when we were back on the mainland, and with little sleep last night we stopped at Onich hotel for lunch, which was so comfortable I decided to go to the reception with my fingers in my ears and asked for a twin room! The price actually turned out to be very reasonable, and free wi-fi thrown into so I could update the necessaries!
The afternoon has been used well catching up with sleep and I think an early night is in order before a 6 or 7 hour drive tomorrow to Leeds. So it is nearly time to say goodbye to Scotland...
